SRW vs. DRW

Most of teh time I do not need DRW. But, the payload capasity for a quad cab, CTD, 4X4 is only 2600 lbs. & if it has DRW, then it is 4400 lbs.

How much of a MPG hit will I take by going to DRW, & how much faster do the tires wear out.

I don't think the mileage will change or the tires wear any faster in a dually. The problem is that once they do wear out you have 6 tires to buy instead of 4.

But they don't all wear out at the same time. I have seen several reports on this list of people going twice as long on the rears as the fronts. So, you would buy 2, then a couple years later, 4 more.

Personally I prefer to avoid the hassles and go with SRW, having said that my work "one ton o' fun" is a dually and the truck is on the third set of fronts and same set of rears with the rears still showing less wear !

Mark: I think there is about 1 to 2 mpg less on a DRW. But that being said if you are pushing the GVW of a SRW from now and into the future it is going to be more trouble for those who are over the limit. Buy the truck for the weight you expect to carry. It is much safer and stability is also enhanced.

If there is an accident the good old insurance companies may and are using this as an out to not pay.

What kind of miles are you getting out of your tires?

Well I got a 2500 this time around thinking I don't need the extra wheels, but if I had to do it all over again,I would go for the dually again,in fact I may end up selling this truck and getting another dually.

Why sell your truck? Do you like the dually THAT much more? Im just in love with my 2500, although a nice clean DRW is nice..

Get a dually; it's a real truck.

Seriously, the dually is much more stable.

60k Miles!!

Heck, I don't have a clue, mine is essentially brand new, and it only has 1550 miles on tires and motor.

Ask me again in a couple of years.
