Question For those dually owners

That have replaced their rubber valve stems w/meatl ones, where did you get them & what size did you get(.462", 5/8"x2",3")? I don't want 'extensions', I just want to replace the whole valve stem w/metal or brass ones. TIA

I would also like to know. I will be ordering my tires soon and want to put better valve stems in as well (I had 2 fail and replaced with factory ones due to timing). I want to bring some in through work so a part number of some sort would be beneficial as well.

Pic #5 is the same I already have except for those are 1'' longer. Pic #4 is what I want but 2" long(I think). What size is the hole in the wheels? I think it is .462 & not the 5/8" that is offered @ alot of the truck places. patchking. com has what I THINK I need but he wants $14 to ship 6 valves+ $8.40 for the stems. The shipping seems kinda rediculous!

I've had my front tires replaced, and the tire place pretty much uses nothing but short metal ones but they threw in metal extensions.

When I replace the rears, I'll put on a set of those braded steel hose type extensions.

That's a good idea. I pulled over on the shoulder to pass a turning car one time and I guess the grass at the edge of the road cut my rubber stem. Less than a mile later the tire was out of air and ruined.

I've read ALOT of bad stories about those braided extensions, that's why I'm wanting to get 2" brass clamp in type.

These are a bit expensive but work great -http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~tire-man/kit3.html Make sure you re-balance your wheel after install.

These are NOT rotation friendly! Not to mention about $100 too much!!!! I have done extensive research on this subject. All I want/need(I think) are 2" long x .462"(wheel hole size) chrome(nickel) plated brass valve stems. Can anyone tell me if this is the proper size? TIA

True, they are not rotation friendly but I have not rotated the tires on my last 2 duallys as I found it to be useless for tire life IMO. The only thing I will do once in a while is cross rotate the fronts for road crown wear. They are high priced and may be overkill for some but I look at it as cheap insurance to avoid stem failures while out on the road, plus I air up/down my tires a lot for beach driving to surf fish and the convienence of having both stems in the same place and facing out front cannot be overstated, especially when using the auto deflators. Any metal stem will be far better than the crap rubber ones, so as long as you dont care about the valve location, the ones you describe should work fine. Good luck

On my '05 3500 Dually I used TR602HP Valve stems. They are for a .453 valve stem hole.

They look like these

I bought them from eBay

Well, I got them installed & they seem to be working great when using the special headed inflator from northern tool. Now my ? is, how do I get the inside dually valve cap off? Someone on here made a tool w/a rubber hose that fit over the cap?

I had a problem with some metal ones on my fifth wheel and took the tire to a tire shop. The guy there had some more metal ones but told me I would be much better off using the ones with the rubber pop in grommet. He said they are actually a much better valve stem, and considering I've never had trouble with those type and have had trouble with others, I'm inclined to believe him...

And hey... They're cheaper to boot!

Went to Napa & got inflate-thru valve stem caps. Soooo, w/the 2" metal valve stems, proper air chuck & inflate thru valve stems I am now completely satisfied. It is as easy as inflating the front tires now!!!!
