third gen info.....

I currently have a 94 CTD. But am looking to add another 3rd Gen CTD to the lineup. I would like to purchased a slighty used truck..... So what is the best year from 2003 and up so far? I would be getting a 4 x 4, quad cab with auto and fully loaded...

And I might sell my 66 Impala and use all the money for mods on the newer CTD. So what type of cash would it take to get to 700 - 800 rear wheel HP? My 66 Impala should sell for around 20 grand..... Will that be enough...

If you are trying for 700-800 rwhp....it will probably be easier if you get an 04.5 or newer truck, plus all the automatics are 48RE transmissions. Some of the early 05s had plastic intercoolers, so watch for those. Otherwise it really doesn't matter what year.

Your biggest single expense is going to be having the trans built up to handle the horsepower.

I agree with tex. I have an 04.5, and I think that I got a good one. The trans is weak when you start really adding juice, but there are a lot of good trans guys out there that will build you a billet trans to hold the beast.

put 10 down on the truck, finance rest,

10K in mods should put you where you want to be.

i was looking at a GEOREND tranny for my truck, think it was ~$3500 or so.

FWIW, with a 04.5 and newer, the basic mods (air intake, exhaust, tranny, fuel system) with most any box (BDTD, Edge, smarty) will make a very impressive truck. that is ~$1500 or so.

so for $5k, you could be very fast, and very dependable.
