Question Need Help w/in dash Nav. Units Stock & Aftermarket

Alright I am looking at getting a Pioneer AVIC-D1,2,&3 in dash nav. systems. The Dimensions are the same for all three (7"x4"x6.5"). http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...tailsComponent I need to know if any one who has a stock or a.m. nav. unit knows the dem. on theirs? Pic's would help also. The reason for this is I don't know if to fit this if I am going to modify my stock dash plate or have a costom one made... . So any help would be great. I hope i have offered enough info. to get some good thought's and help, if not let me know. Thanks again for any help

on a 05, you will have to butcher your dash bezel. The Pioneer is a double din unit. They do have another series with a pop out screen that fits in a single din slot. Dodge always does goofy stuff where they use 1.5 din radios and stuff like that.

I have a D1 in my 06 and love it but the 06 nav bezel is over a double din size so putting it in was sorta easy. You DO NOT WANT stock 05 and older nav. The little bitty screen fits in the 1.5 din and its like a 3" screen. Its not touch screen or anything, you really dont want it.

Ya I knew it was a double din unit. I was just woundering if any one hase done this on an '05 because i've seen descussion of ya'll talking about this with '06s. I don't want a fold out screen or a stock unit either just using as ref.. I guess I might just have to see about modifying my dash bezel . Because I can't pass on a AVIC-D2 for $700 just out of the box. If anyone else is looking for a D1 PM me.

Thanks 8mpg

Good luck...I had an 04 that I was going to put one in and its a hassle. You will have to cut the plastic in the back, the double din is to tall and you will have to cut a recess in the plastic of the dash (behind the radio) and possibly relocate the a/c controls. Check www.the12volt.com in their forums. I believe there was a couple pics on dodgetruckworld.com as well.

You may just have to go to a local stereo shop and have them take a look and see if they want to take on that job. I would recommend going to someone big (Best Buy, Car Toys, Tweeter, Circuit City, etc.) so that you don't get stuck with a Mom and Pop shops' crappy work.

Finally after alot (2.5-3hrs) of scaning forum after forum on various web sites I found some info on the subject. I now know that it is possible, but I have to find info as far as what others have used to mount them if I just need to order a normal double din mount to use or what. But the first step is knowing that it can be done w/out relocating my A/C controls. And from what I have read I believe that I can just drimel (spell?) the stock dash piece there so. But I do believe that I am going to under take the task because I really want this unit in my truck. Now if I was paying full price for it then I probably would not be so gungho about it! Thanks for the imput 8mpg, and rock crawler

heck no..it was to big of a pain and stereo shops either didnt want to mess with it or charge an insane amount to install it. I have a great stereo shop I recommend. Call Autosound in Bedford. Talk to Eric. He might not do it but he is a wealth of info.
