tailgate shock

Saw an 08 last night that had a little shock clipped on one side where the cable attaches to the tailgate. It takes the weight off the tailgate and falls slowly but no help lifting it. And the shock seemed to bind with the cable no matter what. Kinda mickey-mouse compared to Toyotas ... embarassing attempt by Dodge to copy Toyota

That is called ez-down. I don't want one of those but if they made a ez-up then I would be interested.

Toyotas does both and is hidden inside the bottom of the tailgate. Very nice actually, the tailgate weighs nothing ... u can close it with your baby finger.

I have an EZ-Down on my '06. Works really well, but the cable does get pinched between everything now and again.

But these are REAL trucks. If you cant close your own dang tailgate, you SHOULD be driving Toy. Probably a Camary.

After watching my 2-yr old reach down from inside the bed, open the gate, then flip out and land on his head I plan on having one of these in every truck I own.

Matt400 on here and the TDR has a kit for our trucks. I think it's called 'Gate Assist'.

Just to add Matt's also helps in lifting the tailgate. I believe his price is $139 pls $10 for shipping.

I installed one of these on my truck a couple of weeks ago, it works good, but the cable does get caught every once in a while. I will be adding a longer peice of foam to the cable to fix the problem. The two Rams I had before my Titan, had the "killer" tailgates, my wife almost broke her wrist opening it one day, and my son got his head smashed in also by tring to help out and open it. The Titan had the tailgate lower assit and we all loved it. So, when I got the new Ram and told mama about the ez-down, that was the first thing on her list.... Geno's has them for $60 and it installs in less that 15 minutes. I really like it, and it only slows the tailgate opening, but does nothing for closing. So don't give anybody crap about these being a "real" turck, this is a great addition if you have a family to think about, or use the tailgate alot, it will keep the thing from ripping out anchor points and breaking cables too....

I don't think adding a device to make life easier makes the truck any less real. Gone are the days where "real trucks" didn't have carpet, manual windows and locks, comes only in white, and a bench seat.

On a related note, has anyone tried the Easy Lift?

It's a torsion bar that fits between the bed and tailgate and supposedly reduced the lifting and lowering weight by 80%. I like the idea, no issues with it binding up as mentioned above, but I'm concerned about it damaging the paint/metal where it contacts the truck.

Anyone have one?
TIA

Sure, with an attitude like that we'd still be riding around on stone wheels. thanks though.

I was thinking the same. Nice out of the way but what about the paint, I guess you could place to gromets arond the bar to save the paint
