I installed the Hoppy "Easy Lift" today. Man, is it slick. The ad says it reduces the load to 20% and that seems about right. You can open and close the tailgate with 2 fingers. While there might be some wear at the holes in time, the hole locations are inconspicuous and can easily be touched up with a paint dauber brush.

Cost was $29.95, including shipping.

Dan,
Can you take a picture of the setup?

I would, but my wife is on a trip to Nashville and she took the camera with her.

Maybe when she gets back next week, if I remember. You know, "oldtimer's disease".

Dan,

I've been interested in this type of assist, rather than the shock, but I'm also concerned about it wearing the paint off the tailgate and bed.

Does it look like it will wear the paint away or is it designed to not touch the paint other than where it's mounted? Any feedback on rattles or wear and tear on the paint after a few weeks of use would be appreciated!

Here's a link to the Easy Lift web page. Check out the installation video and it will give you a good idea of how it installs and fits. Tailgate Easy Lift

It's virtually invisible with the tailgate closed, at least without using a mirror. By feeling with my hand, it seems to be in contact with the gate edge along nearly it's full length. Will it will wear the paint? Possibly. I e-mailed another member who previously had installed one with that question but never got a reply. I guess time will tell. If it does wear the paint, it will be in a place that could only be seen by looking closely with the gate open.

I haven't driven it yet so can't respond about rattles. I doubt it since there seems to some tension on it even when the gate is closed. It shouldn't be too difficult to install grommets or tubing on it if it does happen.

The truck sits for weeks at a time without being used so it may take a while to determine if wear or noise is a problem. I plan a towing trip to Oregon in November and that may be its first test.

I watched that video. It helped me decide to buy it.

It looks like the "EasyLift" would not only chafe the paint but also the holes would "wallow" out after a while. Mayve I'm wrong. Just a concern I would have.
