I saw one on an '06 3500 DRW. It was called a Tailgate Easy Assist Lift. Nothing more than a 3/8" rod that runs from one side of the truck to the other. Takes two people to install and you drill just two holes. It costs about $20 and it makes the tailgate so light, you wouldn't believe it. I haven't done it yet, but I plan on adding one.

Just my .02$, but just take the cable off all together. I did it on my truck and a friends truck. Works fine. The only problem that I foresee is if I put a ton of something on the tailgait, it could warp, but i aint gonna do it.

Oooorrr....you could not allow your two year old to play in the bed of the truck.

Just ordered several EZ down tailgate openers from Camping World for $44.99 each. I'll try it and if it doesn't work out I'll go with the more expensive solution.

Very happy with my EZ down on my '05. While it would be nice to have an assist for lifting, it was more important to me to dampen the lowering. Opening the tailgate with one arm full of something was very unpleasant before.

The only downside is that you think all trucks have 'em and you drop the 'gate on your buddy's truck without one.

The only thing Toyota has done that I wish EVERYONE especially DODGE would do is the FULL Power rear window!!!

When you have the Quad Cab... All windows down, and the open Moon roof to have the entire rear window down would be the closest thing to having a convertiable, but still have a bad a$$ truck... best of both worlds!!!

There's an article about the "EasyLift" in the new TrailerLife magazine. I'm considering one. The article says it's only $31.

Update: Just installed the EZ Down and guess what, I have a bad shock so the tailgate drops like a rock. Luckly I ordered two and used the second package shock, and that works fine.
I will have to call Stabilis tomorrow and have them send me a new shock.

No problem with the tailgate travel length. Did they send the wrong one?
