Tail fin and spray in bedliner

The truck listed in my sig is what I have a question about - the bed along with the tailgate have lineX sprayed over the rail .....I would like to put a tail fin from the newer trucks on it ('06 and newer?) - have any of you done this?

I'm sure some of you with newer trucks have a tail fin from the factory and sprayed on liner after the fact....any suggestions / comments?

If it's the plastic tailgate protector/spoiler/fin you're talking about then it fits over the top of the gate and is held on with 5 screws on the outside of the gate. I believe you could scrap the liner off enough for the protector to fit on over it. Whoever installs it. It's a good idea to spray paint the screws and holes before installing it to help prevent rust around the screw holes.

An interesting tidbit as to why they put them on the 1500's. It's to help the CAFE requirements. It increases the MPG by 1 so that helps the overall CAFE numbers. Since our trucks aren't included in the CAFE they don't get the addition.

If you need to remove line X heat will soften it up and allow you to scrape and remove. Get ready for a mess, but it can be done.

Will those fins fit on our (2500/3500)tailgates? I assume they will but you never know with Dodge....

If it don't go over the bed liner, enlarge the opening.

I also seen a picture somewhere of as 2500/3500 srw with that added to the tailgate.

I installed one on the '05 a couple years ago, over the Line-X AND the OEM tailgate protector (for engine block & tranny abuse)... tight fit but worked fine - you shouldn't have a problem.

Could you imagine old farmer Bob down at the dealership looking at the tailgate with that stupid spoiler on it, and wondering why in the (#$* anyone would want such a thing on TRUCK......

Funny thing. I have a buddy that works with me. He was hauling a heavy mold in his 05 Power Wagon (sweet truck!, but no CTD) and somehow just after taking off (and he says he was going very slow taking off) it slipped off its pallet and tried to make its way to the street. Luckily for me the tailgate was up and the mold didn't get damaged. However, that thing turned his tailgate into a "V" and it stayed up. Made a double wall into a single wall... Bend the sides of the bed in a bid, tweaked the trunions and everything. It did not come down though! He was so ******, he wouldn't let me get any pics.

After removing the mold with a forklift, to our surprise the tailgate still opened even with everything totally bent up including the linkages and handle.

Point is he went looking immediately for a tail gate and found a mint condition 07 same color (white) from a 1/2 ton and it has the spoiler..., no Power Wagon letters. Bent the trunions back, the bed was fine, and now has a tailgate transplant.

I have one on mine. The dealer just ordered one for a 1500 and it came with all the mounting hardware. Slipped right on.
