Spray In Bedliner Troubles

I had a spray-in bedliner put in by the dealer when I bought my truck new about a year ago. The dealer told me it is a rhino but it does not have emblems anywhere in the bed. Over the weekend, i was helping a friend move and I now have many divits out of the liner, a couple going down to the paint. I have managed to get a few divits before this weekend, but I have many more now. It is my understanding that these liners have a good warranty, but I am confused as to what the warranty covers after looking at the rhino website. When they install the liner, isnt the installer supposed to remove all of the paint? The marroon bed is clearly visible through the cuts in the liner. Could anyone give me the heads up on warranty issues with the spray-in before I contact the dealer? Any ideas on how to fix my divits if I cant warranty it?

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

The procedure is normally to scuff the paint prior to spraying to promote good adhesion.
Check back with your selling dealer, all of the major spray-ins carry a lifetime repair warranty.

In my experience they will warranty ANY scratches, no matter how you made them. Like was mentioned, they usually just scuff the paint and shoot the liner. I don't think stripping it bare is usual. If it is indeed a Rhino liner, the installer should warrant it and repair the damage.

What Ed said ;D
I do, however, find it hard to believe that you could scrape a Rhino liner to the paint. I've had a few in my old rigs and have never had that happen. I've had engine blocks, rear ends etc.... roll around a bit, no problems. Take it back to them for sure, If it's a Rhino Liner, I'm sure they will take care of it.

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

As the guys above said. I have a Rhino liner (with the sticker) and have had a few loads of concrete rubble in the back. Not a wheelbarrow or two, but heaped up and almost overflowing. This stuff is hard on any bed. It was offloaded with shovels and the heavier stuff dragged out. Many shovels hit the bed full force. No damage. The only damage I have is on the back of the wheelwells where some shovels hit and an impact mark is visable. But none of it is down to the paint. On the lip of tailgate is a very small divit about 1/4 "X 1/4" where a large chunk of concrete was dragged over the edge. On that I can see the paint.
No, it seems to me that there is a problem with your installation. I would take it back to the dealer and put the onus on him to fix it and also get him show you Rhino receipt and warranty.

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

Sad thing about these warrantys is they are covered by the installer not the manufacturer. I have big chunks peeling off mine and the guy who installed it went under, therefore no warranty and I am stuck with it. BTW does anyone know a trick to remove this stuff??

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

Like Mexstan said, it also have the Rhino liner and have hauled many loads of concrete bricks with no scratches. That's some tough stuff...bet your installer did not do it correctly. I'd go back to the dealer or the installer to have them correct the problem.

OK, now I'm really upset. my Rhino is the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. I feel completly ripped off and that I wasted $500. mine has been on there since Jan of '03 and has MANY cuts, rips and holes. However I have moved 500 miles away from the installing dealer.

Give 'em a call.

USA/Canada
Rhino Linings USA, Inc.
858-450-0441
Fax: 858-450-6881
(Corporate Headquarters)
They should honor the warranty at another site.
You've paid the $$$, ask them to hold up their end of the deal. (but be nice).

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

From what Ive heard, the application and preparation are almost more important than the actual brand of bedliner. I agree it should be covered by the parent company no matter where you got it. People move and dealers go under all the time - shouldnt mean you get stuck with one of their dealer's shoddy jobs or inferior product. IMO, the parent company approves their dealers and sells the franchises - so they are ultimately responsible.

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

I wouldn't wig out about who installed your RhinoLiner. I had it installed in in Nevada on a half ton back in 1995. In 2001 I cut through the liner with a shovel - and I saw paint too. I dropped the truck off at my Rhino dealer in Wichita Ks. They had no problem repairing the damage. They told me any authorized dealer would touch it up. Having the install receipt made life easier.

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

I just had a line-X installed Saturday and the same thing happened to me. I waited 48 hours before using the bed (they said 24 needed) to haul an old freezer. When sliding it out I ripped two small ****** in the line-X. > > >

I had a Rhino on my last truck and never managed to cut through it with anything. The Rhino was 1/4" thick in the bed bottom but this line-X looks like it's only 1/8" or so all the way around. I don't think they even scuffed the paint. I am really ticked. One of the reason I went with line-X is they claim a "National" warranty. We'll see how this works out.

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

My Line-X has been in my truck for 5 years now and seen lots of abuse and has been repaired, at no cost to me, one time. What was stated above is very true the brand of liner is not that important, what is important is how it was installed. I watched the guys install mine and they used what looked to me at the time a 20" wire cup (it was only 8" but when you spend 30k on at truck it looks bigger) on a big grinder. They stripped the bed down to the primer and bare metal in some spots and then sprayed the liner on. The guy that owned the company explained to me that it's more important to prep the bed than anything. Go back to the installer if possible or call the manufacturer and see what they will do for you to get it fixed.

Good Luck

Re:Spray In Bedliner Troubles

My Line-x has been in since 2000.
The installer used a scotch brite pad and scrubbed the paint all over the bed area until all the shine was gone, then wiped down with a tack rag before shooting the liner.
Absolutly no problems with my liner coming up and no large divots.
It'a ALL in the prep.
