Steering wheel swap? Info please!!
Steering wheel swap? Info please!!
I am thinking about trading my truck for an 04.5 dually. The new truck has the same infinity sound system mine has but does not have the audio controls on the steering wheel like mine. The salesman said he would do the swap if it could be done. He then told me that it could not be done after talking to the service department. Wonder if he is correct or not? Looks like the wiring would already be there since the sound system is the same and the new truck has the other controls on the steering wheel (cruise). Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks.
Based on the small bit of poking around behind the dash I have done, I would think that the wires are there and ready to plug into something.
However, I have heard the steering wheel is different on the 2004.5 then it was on the 2003 and possibly even the 2004. Maybe someone else can confirm.
Good luck,
Sam

I went to trade today and ended up not taking the truck they had dealer transfered for me. It was a 04.5 2wd 6spd/600 dually. Drove it on the interstate for about 50 miles and the mileage computer scared me off. At 68 to 70 mph I reset it 3 times and it would always end up at 13.0 to 13.2. My current 305/555 auto left the dealer at 16.8 to 17 mpg and after 20 thousand miles it is about 1 to 1.5 better. The thought of 14.5 after break in aint gonna cut it for me. After looking at the steering wheel I think your right they probably wont change out because the wheel looks totally different to me.
Oh well it does not matter anyway now. I had him try to locate a 3500 srw 4x4 sb with the 305/555 engine with the 6 spd and I got lucky and found one in Kentucky and bought it!. The question now is mine has an 8 way drivers seat (lumbar) and the new rig just has the 6 way (no lumbar). My salesman said he would swap them for me if they would interchange. From what I saw I think it will. The seats look the same and I think the wiring harness is the same that the seat plugs into so I am good to go there I hope. If it wont its ok the new rig has the aluminum wheels and mine didnt and we are swaping the stock 265 tires for the BFG 315's that I just put on.
Oh yea we are also swaping out the fold flat floor and the Mopar splash guards off of mine onto the new one. I dont feel bad about swaping all the options I can because I know I PAID dearly for them in the trade difference.
Just kiddin the trade was good, I am happy.
Sorry so long. Thanks for the help!!

That 13mpg is about the same I had when I first drove my 600 home. I'm up to 16mpg mixed now with 65 - 75 freeway and 30 - 40 on the streets between lights (Hand Calculated, but computer matched it). Still about 13 around town (lots of stop lights).
Mine had 11 miles on it when I bought it, I'm up to about 1625 as of today. I'm hoping my mileage will still improve a bit but I'm not too concerned about it.
Good find on the 305/555 though. I imagine those are getting quite rare.
