Steering links and TRE's $649

i went in to my local dealer for new TRE's and they told me they didnt service my type of steering anymore. I could update to their new version for $649+ install. I dont need pitman arm or dampner just the links and tie rod ends and he said they dont sell the kit seperate. I asked "if somebody just needed the steering dampner if they had to purchase the whole kit for $649". The parts manager said "yes". Does this sound right? Or is this guy full of ****

Any other places i may find the parts i need without having to buy the complete kit?

This revised linkage is fairly new and is suffering the expected growing pains. After a while when the revised linkage has saturated the market, they will probably start selling individual service parts for it, and the aftermarket will undoubtedly start to reproduce the new parts. For now, it has to be purchased as a kit, and it is expensive, but at least you'll be starting fresh with new, better parts.

Seems to me any of the parts stores should have what you need. NAPA might be a good place to start?? Otherwise, try the aftermarket - Carli, Thuren . .

The dealerships CAN get single parts, probably more to the overall package that gets replaced, that's why they want to sell you the whole enchilada. Obviously the old stuff and the new stuff are not interchangable.

well i would hate to buy the dampner wich is probly useless and the pitman arm cause the lift i have came with a repacement arm. the dual stabilizers i have will work with that linkage because they both have eyes on both ends.

That price for the new setup sounds really high to me, especially if you have the pitman arm that came with your lift. I just had mine replaced today and I didn't pay anywhere close to that. Try one of the online Dodge parts places such as http://www.mopar2u.com/bgautprod.html or http://www.dodgeparts.com/. The first one is in Seguin,TX. The new set up is of a different design.

If you just want to replace the existing tie rod ends, you should be able to get the parts at your local auto parts store. I replaced the one that connects to the pitman arm about a month ago. I think they had the others though.
