Starting without the clutch?
Starting without the clutch?
I just bought a used 2005 CTD with a 6 speed G56.
My question is, should these start without the clutch being depressed?
I was out of my truck and left my wife and kids in the cab with the engine off. It was about 10 degrees outside so my wife leaned over and tried to start the truck because she is used to my prior automatic. Well, it cranked over and jumped forward but didn't start because it scared her. I then tried to start it while it was in L gear without the clutch and sure enough, it jumped forward and started right up.
I thought that with the newer vehicle's the clutch had to be depressed?
Any ideas on what would be the problem?

I know I disabled the clutch safety on my truck, as I am the only one driving it, and I know better. Check down by the clutch pedal, there should be a wire connected to the mechanism. Make sure it's hooked up properly; and that it hasn't been shunted.

Thanks for the help.
However, I crawled under there to look at the clutch safety switch and the wire's/plug is connected. I did notice that what I assume is the safety switch is on a rod and the switch slides back and forth on the rod. Is this normal? The switch looks like its about 2-3" in length and cylinder shaped on the rod, if that makes any sense.
Thanks again,
Craig

I've tried to start mine once by accident, I believe it was in 1st or 2nd, and it wouldn't just go dead when I turned the key. It could be a cheap way to get a starter you could use one for a auto!
