starting without fuel pressure?

after recently reading some threads, i got to wondering about my setup.
my factory intank pump was dead when i got the truck, so i took the truck to a local shop and they installed the bd pump for me. they said it works off of oil pressure and once its fires up the fuel pressure will come up. but my question , is that bad on the injection pump? the guage shows 0 untill the truck is started, once the oil pressure comes on,fuel pressure jumps right up to 21.
i have been using it like this daily for about 6 months, they assured me it was how it was made to work and i would be fine...after some reading on hear im starting to have second thoughts.... thanks- matt

Im wondering the same. My LP is leaking and until I can get it fixed I need to drive it a few more times. Is it ok to start it with 2 - 4 lbs of pressure even if the pressure eventually builds up to 15?

So is it ok to start with low pressure just before the LP? or are we playing russian roulette?

Everyday,
You have fuel pressure to start so anything over zero is good, and it does build to 15, if your worried try "bumping the starter" prior to starting and wait till it hits 15, but I would not lose any sleep over it.

2psi or 15 psi is still more than a vacuum, I could be wrong but I have not read of VP failure with low psi, just NO psi. I got my truck at 297 000KMs when I tested my LP it would drop (no reason) 3psi and then would drop to 0psi, the orginal owner said NOTHING had been changed on the truck(except brakes/front end stuff) there was no way to know how long it had been like this, I drove it for 2months before changine a LP .since may 07 till now I have logged 38,000Kms and over a 1000hrs of driving (8hrs and approx 200kms a day) so far no VP issues. I think some over react when the pressure is low. Like I said if your worried about start up , "bump" the key to have the LP pre-charge the VP before you start it, you did say it gets to 15psi... right? you did not say it drops to zero

the internal vane pump in the vp will pull enough fuel from the ff canister , a few seconds later the pressure activated pump will fill it right up..dont worry

my problem is im not using the stock ones...its a bd kit.....and bumping the starter doesnt do anything for it either, it wont show any fuel pressure till its running and the motor has oil pressure, then it jumps up to 21....

21 is a little high I would think.I heard its supposed to be 10-14.My truck runs awesome and so I guess its alright.I dunno, when I bought the truck I didnt even drive it until I got a guage ,the big line kit and a new pump.So I cant compare it to anything else.
