Starter Replacement Cost

My brother just had the starter replaced on his 04 and I'm thinking he got reamed at this shop. Curious if anyone would care to share what they have paid for replacement, material plus labor. Or maybe I should ask if anyone knows a ballpark of what should be expected when having a shop replace the starter. Any input much appreciated.

Starter for the 2nd gen runs about $174. If not too late go get the factory one and install the heavy duty contacts....this is the main issue w/the starters (at least it is w/2nd gen). I didn't realize it and gave my core up to autozonnie and it been a pita since then....starter replacement abt every 1.5-2 yr. yea...it's a lifetime replacement but who wants to change out a pos starter annually. Honestly, I really wish I knew about the heavy duty contacts prior to changing the factory starter out....good luck!

As high bid mentioned usually the contacts. However LarryB also sells brand new starters with the upgraded contacts installed. My 01 is still on the original with 298k on it. I have the contacts to replace in it in the garage just haven't got around to it yet now it has to wait until spring.

Yeah, I've read about the upgraded contacts before, I just don't really recall reading many threads about starter replacement or cost. The contacts are definitely something I will look into when it's my time. Thanks for the link Barry, I looked on the Denso web-site and it really only points you in the direction of remanufactured units. I was really curious what a new replacement starter costs.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying not meaning to be a smart azzz. The link above to Larry B's site shows brand new starters $409 for 94-02, $449 for 03-06 and $549 for 07-10.

"These New DENSO OEM replacement starters for Dodge/Cummins come with SuperSize contacts installed. We no longer supply aftermarket starters because of unreliable quality from the manufacturers. We now only carry genuine NEW NIPPON DENSO starters. The exact same starter that came with your truck except we have installed supercontacts (except 07-08) . For the person who wants to make absolutely sure it's done right. Don't install a cheap starter!"

$96 new starter, no core and changed it myself. dieselcare.net, it might be a cheap throwaway starter, but I have my core and can rebuild at my leisure... Which I did not have the time for when I ordred the new starter. Felt like it was quality part, we'll see how long it lasts... My OEM rattled it was so worn out...

Barry, after re-reading it, I should have worded it better. The link that you posted is very helpful as I was looking for new OEM (in this case better than OEM with the upgraded contacts) starter pricing. I googled Denso starters and went to the Denso link, all they show are places like Advanced Auto for re-man units.

$90 from advance auto parts with coupon. Old starter had brushes worn out and cranked SLOW.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate you all for helping me out. I was searching for this https://casinosanalyzer.com/online-c...portcasino.com website online because I am looking for the WinPort casino site reviews and while searching for it online, I found link to your post as well.

Rebuild kit is $30 if you want the DVD to show you how, or $20 just for the parts. Geno's is great.
Back to morning brew . . .
