So why did you buy A Dodge diesel?
i bought it for the cummins, and it was 4wd, and i got a good deal on it. dad's got a 2000 1ton ford dually crew cab. hes gettin ready to get another truck, so im talkin to him to keep it and sell it to me. when i get out of the marine corps, ill drive it till the powerstroke goes, and swap the cummins in.
I forsaw an upcoming need for a pickup for my house and to tow a racecar. Always been a car guy and a real gearhead when it comes to cool cars and durable engines, but I missed the utility of my first vehicle (a 1992 Jeep Cherokee which I drove into the ground).
Did my research for roughly 2 years and basically bought mine because:
1) Cummins 5.9L (The other manufacturers use this in their medium duty trucks, no brainer there). Last of the Diesel Muscle-truck engines (no EGR, DPF, just cat).
2) G56 - look at my sig, all my vehicles are manual, made my wife learn to drive stick as well. Manual trans may be slowly dissappearing from these HD trucks, so I jumped on one.
3) NV271 - manual 4x4 lever, less to go wrong. Also an option that is slowly dissappearing.
4) Dodge big rig styling, jumped on a 2006 after I heard they were making the Ram look less "big rig".
The one wish I had was if the engine had a throttle cable vs electronic throttle. I prefer the mechanical linkage (again less to go wrong). All my other vehicles have throttle cables.

I really hate that I was soooo hooked on getting a Cummins that I sold my 2002 F-250 CrewCab shortbed, PowerStroke diesel, 6 speed manual, manual lock in hubs. I really miss that truck, but I get goose bumps [pause in writing: just got a knock at the door to pull a very large CAT loader with tire as tall as me out of the ditch that is stuck in 5 feet of snow. I am not using my truck, the operator has a 2500 GMC Yukon that he want me to use as an achor

. Well it took some time but it worked. I wish someone had a video cam on this, too funny.] Now where was I? Oh ya, goose bumps everytime I fire up the Cummins. Everything else about the truck I think is cheesy and probably won't hold up as well as my Ford would have. I took some series flac from my Dad and best friends who all drive 2000 to 2002 Ford PSD. We are bigtime/longtime Ford fans. Oh well only time will tell.
