satelite lead through high mount brakelight

I bought a sat radio and was wondering if anyone has brought the aerial lead in beside the high mount brake light and if so what are the chances of it leaking

Sat ant.

I did it on my 04 and it leaked. I also have the smoked recon 3rd brakelight but not sure if that made a difference. I wasn't overly impressed with sirius so I just took it out of my truck. Leak fixed that way.

Mine is wired through the 3rd brake light hole. No leaks. Just get some clear rtv and put it from the wire to about 1/2" to 3/4" to each side of the wire. You want enough to fill the gap that is on each side of the wire and you'll have no problems.

Don't route the wire under the light seal on the top edge. There's enough space under the light edge between the seal and outer edge of the light to cover the wire.I ran mine around the perimeter of the seal from top center to bottom center, then under the seal and in. You can use a light skim of kiddie craft rubber adhesive on the wire to help hold it in that routing instead of wrestling with the wire while installing the light - not a permanent hold, won't affect the paint. Put just a hir extra oomph on the screws to compress the gasket around the wire a bit more for a better seal - careful to avoid cracking the plastic!
This uses the exterior of the light for a shingle effect, mine's been that way for two years worth of rain and washes, no leaks.

As a test, I placed mine on the dash at the base of the windshield. It gets a signal even thru the dashmat, except when there is snow piled on the windshield. I routed the wire across the front of the dash, passenger side, and into the glove box area. Don

Same here, just mount it on the dash, no leaks that way. The only time I have had any problems is when I have my camper on. Of course I would have the same problem if it was mounted on the roof.

Putting it on the dash may just work for me for the time being. I tow a Titanium 5th wheel ( the one with the extra step in the nose) and it is very close to the cab. I appreciate all the info and ultimately will probably route it through the brake light. Thanks a lot.

Mine is mounted on the dash and seems to work pretty good.

I ran my VHF cable through the light, but went under where it shouldn't leak. So far so good.

I ran mine down the back of the cab, up the frame rail and in through the firewall.

Ditto on my last two, 2000 and the 2004, both went in above the light. I did notch the plastic on the lamp housing a tad though.
