Thumbs down Recirc Door Issue

My recirc door broke and I went to the dealer to find out how much one was and how much they would charge to put one in, well they said they can't just get the door and have to replace the whole box the part is $128 and they want $525 for the labor so I told them thanks but no thanks. My question is can you just get the door or do Ihave to buy the whole unit and can I buy it from somewhere other than the dealer? I saw the thread on the install and think I can do it but I dont really want to buy the part from the dealer. Thanks for the help I know I'm not the only going through this pain with the a/c system.

I don't know of anywhere besides the dealer to get the door. you can get the door assy for 40-60 dollars depending on your dealers price. then just put the new door and spindle in thru the fan hole behind the glove box.

I think there should be some kind of lawsuit over this Dodge a/c system!

Check out.... www.heatertreater.net/
I just installed the (2) mode doors (defrost+panel) from them.
I didn't need the blend or recirc door....yet...
But they have recirc and blend door packages+discount if you have to order more doors later. Excellent find for this Kid.

Wow, that's a ridiculous price being quoted by your dealer. I just had mine replaced last week, total, including tax, was $291.00, of which $58.00 was the recirc door housing (contains the housing, recirc door and servo).

If you want to try it yourself, have a look here for excellent instructions.

Note this method does not replace your existing housing, just the door and servo. At first I was going to do it this way, but I had conflicting information on which part was the "improved" part to prevent breaking again, i.e. the housing itself or was the servo/door the improved part. In the end, I just had the whole thing replaced at the dealer.

Good luck!

do it yourself...its pretty easy. Look at the link above on Cummins forum. You can order the part from Mopar2u.com and have it at your door for $40. Read my post over there...last page. It should take 20 minutes to fix

I just finished installing mine 2 hours ago. I used RatlRatl's instructions and it was a snap. Very easy and took me about 2.5 hours to complete. The part cost me $38 from my Dodge dealer and includes the improved housing. The only other thing I did was buy a set of plastic door panel pry bars from Harbor Freight instead of using a screw driver to loosen the panels.

It's kind of scary to see your dash opened like a door and hanging by 3 bolts, but all worked out well.
