Rattle

My truck rattles when I go over a big bump or a railroad crossing. It almost sounds like a "clunk" from the rear. It has been doing thie for a while, I always thought it was probably the shock bushings going bad. The noise has almost went to a pop now. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

What speed?

Always? or how often?

Loaded or unloaded?

Are you sure its not just how stiff it is sprung? (Don't mean to discount your knowledge)

Overload springs?

Might be they are making contact.

You could but a gob of grease on them at the contact
points and after a trip see if the grease is disturbed?

Yeah, I've got a Byers adjustable height hitch on mine and if I leave it down for towing it really jumps around! I'm thinking about shimming it and the receiver.

My truck does this loaded and unloaded. My friend has the same truck and his doesn't do this. I am pretty sure it is the shocks, I had a 98 do the same thing. I just thought I'd see if anyone had similar problems with an 03.
Thanks again.

Had a rear rattle twice. The first rattle was caused a a slightly loose top bolt in one rear shock. Removed the bolt, checked it and the frame holes for damage, but only noticed some shiny spots. Reinstalled it and reefed it up as tight as I dared. No more rattle.
The second rattle was harder to trace. I thought it was coming from the spare wheel but could not move it. Eventually I released the tension on the crank mechanism for the spare and cranked it up again. Rattle gone.
Both rattles were traced by having someone ride in the bed of the truck on roads that were known to cause the rattle.

Hey, dontyuh know this is Mexico and the bed of the truck is made for transporting people? Believe it or not, but my record so far is 19 people in and on my truck. No, we did not have seat belts for everyone. Never lost anyone yet - I think.
