Question(s) about '05 2500

I have a buddy considering jumping into a diesel. He wants me to go with him to look at it Saturaday. So what do I need to look for or advise him? I am not familiar enough with 3rd gens. Thanks for any help. I know that it is a 2005 Crew cab long bed with the G56 tranny, new tires & 373 rear end.

Make sure the heater/AC blows to the floor, dash and windshield. Expensive dash removal if it doesn't.

Check for cracks on the turbo, any signs of extreme temps and check for leaks.

Not to threadjack, but mine just started messing up. When the switch is set on floor is blows part on floor and some on dash. Is it just the switch or what exactly is wrong with it? Like how expensive are you talking.

So, you are a threadjacker. Sorry to hear that. I'm even more sorry to hear you are having the blend door issue. The "Search" button is your friend. Click here as this was just discussed the other day. If you are handy, good luck. If not, it will give you an idea of what all is involved.
Back to my fluid replacement therapy . . .

Also look at the exhaust manifold very thoroughly. The 3rd gen manifolds are less prone to cracks, but I have still seen some cracks in a few. Look for places on the manifold that have black smoke on them. Also check the rubber grommets on the drivers side of the firewall. You can tell if anything has been installed and removed (i.e. chips, gauges, electric parts of any kind) if theres splits or holes in them.

Truck seems to check out good. It runs good and looks sharp. He is just trying to get them to come down some more. They are asking 27900, got them down to 25200. One thing I wasn't sure on was if it had the 100,000 mile warranty on it like my 02 had. He was wondering how it will do on MPG's with the 373 rear end versus my 02 with the 355? I have been running @16 on average, I checked the overhead on the 05 and it was reading 13.9.

Heck I really liked driving it myself, If my buddy doesn't do something with it I might consider trading in my 02!

Yes, 2005 was the last year for the 7/70 powertrain (7/100 engine) warranty, but Chrysler hits you with a $150 fee to transfer it to the second (not subsequent!) owner.

How many miles are on the truck?
IMHO, 150 bucks to transfer the remaining
warranty might be worth it if for
nothing else the engine warranty alone.
FWIW, Iv got a stock 05 and get 16-20 with an auto and 3.73 gears.

I have a similar truck, except it's a QC SB and has the NV5600. I get 17, mostly around town and over 20 highway. The G56 revs higher. I think the final drive is .79 instead of .73 like the NV.

Exclamation Warranty Question

Ok I bought a carfax since my buddy is passing on the truck so I am seriously considering it. It shows 2 owners instead of the one the salesman told us. My question is about the warranty, it has 52,000 miles and has had 2 previous owners so I would be #3. According the Dodge website since I would be the 3rd owner I would not have warranty at all! If that is the case then the dealer is going to have to lower the price on the truck so I can buy an extended warranty or something. ANy suggestions??
