Does the kerosene have a road tax on it? If it's not dyed I say throw in a couple of quarts of non detergent 30w motor oil per tank and run it.

Kerosene does not have road tax.
Most places it is dyed the same as off road Diesel.

No, it would not be legal to run it in your vehicle.

Same fines would exist as running off road Diesel.

But that is only if you get caught correct??? You can always claim ignorance and say you made a mistake when you fueled up last!!! If it'll work without harming you engine, why not try it????

K-1 is usually does not have road tax applied to the price. Where I live, they put such a short hose on the kerosene pump, it's hard to even get it into a can.

But I don't think you can run straight kerosene. It is used to "cut" diesel to prevent gelling, but not run on it's own. Too thin, no parifin.

In the winter blend fuels they cut #2 with #1 which is kerosene to prevent fuel gelling. #1 has less btu content (read as less power and economy) and definitely has less lubricity. I dont know that I would run it straight especially without an additive unless I had too. The truck will run fine with it just the lack of lubricity is going to not be helpful to your injection pump and if a cylinder wash condition were to occur it probably would make the consequences of that that much worse. Since yours is a third gen and I dont think it uses the vp44 pump it may not be as much of an issue not sure on that though.
And then again I may have facts all mixed up.

BarryG is correct - kerosene is similar to diesel #1. It has far less lubricity and less btu's which will give you less power and mileage. The lower power/mileage will certainly cancel out any cost savings per gallon, let alone whatever else damage/wear might occur from using the low lubricity kerosene. My opinion is if you can't afford the fuel, don't own the vehicle. Also I firmly believe in using the right tool for the job - which is diesel fuel. JMHO

I had 15 gallons of kero left over two winters ago. I'd fill the tank with #2 until it clicked off then add 2-3 gallons of kero, just to get rid of it. it ran fine and I wouldn't think it would hurt anything in such a small dose, mixed with #2.
but I certainly wouldn't run it at even a 50% blend. You can feel the difference if you get some on your finger and thumb rubbed together, much less slick and oily feeling.

just to ad to your fuel thread---have any of you ever been stopped in a pick up truck and had your fuel checked to see if it the road taxed stuff? I'm under the impression if its not a commercial vehicle they can't check it. also if the farmers off road fuel any good?

Yeah, I was dipped on a back road about 30 minutes west of Richmond, really in the middle of nowhere. It was about 6am, they were stopping and dipping all oil burners.
I had B20 in the tank, it confused the guy with the straw but the lady in charge said, as long as it's not red.

tcb - hey, not to hijack your thread but, I would love to pay only $1.99/gal for diesel!! Been a long time since I've seen diesel under 2 bucks a gallon around here. Around here the average price is $2.25/gal!!
