Quad cab sizes? Did the later years get bigger from the 2003 model?

We downsized our RV, but not enough. The idea was to get something smaller that the wifes Durango could haul as we now(as of yesterday ) have 3 kids in car seats/boosters, its more comfortable on a trip. So we downsized the RV from a massive 30ft 5th wheel to a 26ft Bumper pull. Unfortunately its still a bit much for the Durango. Its well within the tow rating but the hemi just doesn't pull like the diesel I'm used to and well, the fuel economy just plain SUCKS. What can I say, I'm spoiled.

So the manual tranny 2003 one ton dually needs to go and in its place needs to be something the wife can drive. Ideally a SRW, automatic. Catch is I use the box TONS so a Short box is out and thus, so is a mega cab.

Now when looking for the Durango we test drove a 2007 1500 Quad cab and I noticed that there seemed to be way more room in the backseat than my 2003. Was this just a 1500 thing or did all 3rd gen quad cabs get stretched at some point? If so when? Thanks!

Too long for the wife to maneuver around and too much money.

3 kids in car seats would fit in the back of my 06 QC no problem, with adults you do have to move the seats up a bit, but it works.

Edit: Are you positive on the year?

QC remained the same, in 2009 they released the Crew Cab.

Hmm, was pretty sure it was a 2007. So the quad cabs from 2003-2009 are all the same? Were the 1500s the same?

I know that I can get 3 car seats in my 2003 quad cab, its a pain getting to that middle seat though. More space in the back seat would allow you to slide past the outer seat easier. If I'm getting a different truck anyway having a bigger cab would be a bonus.

They did make a 1500 Mega Cab, it was a 2500 that was badged and weight listed as a 1500.

What about getting a megacab and putting a flatbed on the back? That would get back some cargo space... I know the look isn't for everybody (people looked at me like I had 3 heads when I would say I was looking to buy a truck with a flatbed LOL)

I've actually been thinking about a flat deck. Have a design in mind that has fold down sides, but instead of folding completly down they fold out flat, horizontal. So what was originally a 6x6 deck with 12" sides, becomes 8ft wide and 7ft long. Should be able to get 2 quads on that and be much lower CG than having a quad deck sitting on top of the box.
