Power Steering Pump goes pfewww.....

My steering box has been leaking a little bit lately. I remember reading one of the guys here saying that it can be caused by pressure build-up in the steering pump. I think he said that if you take the dipstick/lid off, and it makes a pfewww sound that you could drill a small pin-hole in the top to help relieve the pressure. Anyone recall this, or experiencing the same thing?

I am curious to find out. Mine is doing the same thing. A little bit of leaking and a pfeww when I open the dipstick lid.

It's been a while sine I looked at the cap, but doesn't it have an "O" ring. If so, then they want it sealed, yes, no? Since my breaks are part of the circuit I want to be sure I don't mess things by drilling a hole.

Same here!

Add me to the list of "those who want to know". Mine leaks and is pressurized as well. What's a valid solution, anyone? Anyone?

I've been relieving my pressure every few days by removing the cap, and since I started doing it, there is no longer an oil accumulation on the underside of the steering box. So far, it works!

I had my pump replaced once now. It effected the steering and the brakes. I asked the question of why does the cap want to shoot off when you go to open it. The dealer said it was normal for the pumps to build up pressure but for some reason they wouldnt release it properly. So drill a small hole in the cap with a tiny bit. I told him to not do it to my truck unless he was going to document it on my records.
Needless to say he never did drill the hole in the cap. The caps are suppose to vent themselves but for some reason they do not. So excessive pressure is built up in them. I guess the oring in the cap works to well.
They were suppose to be comming out with a new cap but if they did or not I do not know.

New Cap?

Maybe you guys could obtain a stock cap, drill the hole and use it until you go into the dealer.
