Power steering fluid type question.

I changed my PS box today and flushed and refilled the pump/lines etc. I didn't use ATF+4 I just used regular 'Bob's your uncle' DEX II/DEX III/Mercon ATF. Is there any reason to believe that this won't work?...Actually it does work BUT will it frick my stuff up?

That's a GM fluid. GM and Chrysler have different specs. I don't think I would put it in my truck but that's JMHO.

I hear what you're saying and I know that GM & Chrysler have different specs but this isn't a GM or Chrysler box...It's a Saginaw box. I just wonder if it really matters or if Chrysler recommends ATF+4 because that is their fluid? The same "type" box in a GM probably doesn't recommend chrysler ATF+4.

IF it where me,,, ATF+4 regardless. ATF+4 is superior lubrication, and is why you should have used it imo.

The box may be a Saginaw, but the PUMP is a Chrysler. Chrysler is recommending the ATF+4 for the pump.

You could probably run motor oil in a Saginaw box but the pump would not like it very well.

I'd run Amsoil Universal ATF and be done with it. Have it in my pump now.

From what I have seen, the 3rd gen power steering systems are far more problematic than the earlier ones. I would be pretty fussy about sticking with the recommended oil. That's just me.
