The silencer ring is no big deal. Just remove the intake tube and it will be sitting on the front of the turbo. There is a type of snap ring holding it in place. Just take a small screwdriver and slide it under one end of the ring and slowly pop it out. May take a few tries but it should come out pretty easily. You can remove the intake tube baffles but I haven’t done it so I don’t know how. There are others on this site that have and they have instructions on how to do it. Maybe one of those guys will chime in. I myself am going to order the afe intake tube from genos. It is a lot easier and looks cool.
As far as the cat is concerned…. I wouldn’t touch mine. It just depends on where you live. And yes I believe that if you remove the cat they can deny your warranty. Or at least try to.
Hope this helps some.

I have the eliminator tube from Geno's that took care of the baffles. Big benefit is that the OEM section stays intact should it need to go back in. Doing it again, I would probably taken out the OEM, applied the old tape measure to it, and headed off to the local hardware store for a section of PVC.

Airaid makes what the call a MIT (modular intake tube) to replace that section. Fits perfectly and is also tapered a bit like a venturi to promote airflow. Not as big as a torque tube (uses the stock rubber couplings, replacing only the baffled piece), but also less money @ $64.00. BTW, you can see it here: http://www.airaid.com/300-928_dodge.asp

Matt,
I thought of that also. Do you think that it would melt the pvc or make it soft since it is right next to the exhaust manifold? It seems that the stock unit is harder plastic than pvc would be. I would hate to have it come apart and destroy my turbo. Would be a cheap solution though.

To remove the baffles, just remove the tube from the intake to the turbo, take off both elbows, pry the top off (it's just glued on) and then the baffles will slide right out. I just put the top back on with super glue and have not had any problems.
As for the CAT... I'd just leave it on. I know how uptight everyone is with CATs on gassers and although most diesels don't have them, the new 600's do and I'd just leave it. all I did to my exhaust is remove the muffler and put a piece of straight pipe in.

Bubba,
I’ve taken out the silencer ring in mine. Can you hear the turbo even more with the baffles removed? That of course is what I’m looking for.

Yep… you’re right. It makes the turbo quieter. If you take it out you can hear it spool up. Kind of sounds like a big rig. If you add an aftermarket air box you can hear it more.
As far as performance, there is no benefit. Just louder.

I put a bullydog airbox on my 04.5, and I certainly noticed the turbo more. One side effect I found that I like is that hearing the turbo makes me more mindful of idling the truck a bit when I go to get out. If I've just finished using more than a tiny bit of throttle, I can hear the turbo more, and the sound reminds me to wait a bit before I shut if off.

I don't think the baffles really help that much the sound of the Turbo. Maybe a bit... but not a lot. The first thing I did was take out the silencer, baffles and elbow... then I could hear the Turbo. After that I put the intkae on and then I could really hear it. With the sound of the Turbo spooling up and the straight pipe... it definatly sounds like a big rig now.
