Peeling stock chrome grille

The chrome on my stock SLT grille is peeling and generally looks terrible. It has the stock black honeycomb inserts.

I am thinking of going with an ST flat black replacement. What are your thoughts of that on a silver truck with the chrome bumper? Might look a little funny? Some day I will have the money to get a Buckstop bumper which should look better with the black grille.

If I stripped the chrome off what does it look like underneath? How would I strip it off?

Or what other solution did you come up with?

I am not digging the after market billet designs. The less chrome to polish the better IMO. I do like the 06+ horizontal inserts a bit better than the 05 honeycomb. Does the entire assembly fit older models? I think I read that they do, but the corners are a little off. The Sterling grille looks great but will not fit.

My neighbor has the ST with a silver truck and the flat black grill. I have a silver truck with a chrome grill. The flat black looks good to me.

I like the black grill too.

My 06 chrome grill has the black slat inserts. The chrome on mine is peeling on the bottom dside corner. Only a matter of time I guess before I have to deal with it or just get use to it.

If you've got a grill guard, a black grill would look cleaner and meaner too.
