My truck has just developed a heavy "clunk" that seems to be coming from the passenger rear suspension (or somewhere else in that area) any time I either go over a large bump, or when the road on that side dips due to storm drains or man-hole covers. Any ideas? Can it be something going on with the 1-ton's rear leaf springs? I don't want to ignore it if it may end up causing damage in the future.

Are you sure there's nothing in the bed? My hitch bangs on bumps too. Outside of that, check the calipers, springs, bump stops, and spare tire.

 

My truck did the same a long time ago. Found the cause to be the top bolt on one shock was loose. Tighted the bolt and the noise vanished.
