Early and Late 06?

I did some searching, because I'm sure its been asked a million times but what is the difference?

Is one better than the other? I saw a lot of conflicting info, but it appears as though 06/06 or so the ECM's changed on the trucks. Because of this, certain chips do not work? If I'm someone who's interested in chipping my truck and getting big power, is a late 06 something to avoid? I don't know when the truck was manufactured, but I sealed the deal on a 2006 yesterday.

I also read the 06 has the TIPM, capabilities for the auto to control exhaust brake, etc...

Is there anything I'm missing? Something that would make me regret buying a specific 2006 truck? I would have searched more but 2006 and 06 doesn't give any good info, nor did "2006 changes" "2006 model changes" etc...

Thanks for taking the time to read another redundant thread....
Shawn

Did you get the black one?

I know there is a difference between the 05's and 07's compared to the 06's...

But I don't think it is anything you are going to regret as far as performance upgrades go...

I don't believe there is a mid year change in 06.

Yep, I sure did

Nothing is final until I see the truck parked in my driveway, but the finances are squared away and we agreed on the price. Waiting for some papers to come in the mail and I can hopefully pick it up this weekend if not early next week. The dealership is holding the truck for me.

Either way, I got myself the mother of all Christmas gifts.

For some reason I remember reading last night that TST and some other brands don't work on late 06 trucks because the ECM changed to a newer style that was developed for the 6.7?

That's awesome.

I think you are right about that change...

But I don't know any specifics on it...

I know Smarty works though.

Sounds good to me. Smarty is what I want anyways, gauges not so sure about. Really like the digital multi gauge display aspect of the Pulse on my 99...

Now to track down some wheels and tires for her. Whew, like a kid on Christmas...

It looks like there was a change in '06. According to the TST website, the Powermax will only work on '06 models built before June of '06. Apparently there isn't a Powermax available for the June '06 and later 5.9's yet.

There is a different Edge Juice box for 06 model year truck with June being the break point. Not sure what all of the differences are but there are differences.

In 06/06 on up the ecm is different and the tst will not work on the newer models. In my experience the early 06 model will make more power with the same mods as a late 06 early 07 5.9.

Look on the driver's side door jam or the door.

There should be a sticker that shows the build date.

You can get a 'build sheet' from the VIN. I had my dealership print me out a build sheet. It tells you everything about your truck to include the mfg date. There might be a person here on the site that can get you a build sheet OR you can get it from a dealership. I went to the Chrysler/Dodge website and e-mailed them to get a build sheet on my 2000 Jeep TJ that I bought used in 2003. I just told them that I had purchased this vehicle used and wanted to have the specific info about it's build to make getting parts, etc easier, they sent me a PDF build sheet.

Yea, I figured the door jamb but I won't have the truck for a few days still so in the mean time I'm flying in the dark. Here's hoping for an early model

I guess I can stop by the dealer today or tomorrow.
