This subject has gotten quite a bit of coverage. Because of that I asked my salesman if all fluid levels, including diff. cases, are checks prior to delivery. He assured me that it was part of their XXX many point predelivery inspection so I didn't worry about it. Later I called the service department and asked the same question with the same answer. <br><br>Just for the heck of it I checked the levels and found them in spec but at the extreme low limit. The service manual states that the correct level is 1/4 inch below the filler hole +/- 1/4 inch. I would say that my levels were exactly at 1/2 inch below the filler hole. I called the service department and asked them if this was ok and they said it was in spec. I mentioned to them that this would be like checking your oil and finding it at the bottom of the safe marker and not adding oil.<br><br>My opinion is that the low levels are not a product of sloppy work on the assembly line but are intended to be that way to save money. When you look at the size of these cases and the amount of fluid it takes to move the level 1/2 inch from the low level to the full mark think about how much money is saved over the number of trucks produced each year. I chalk up the low levels to cost cutting and nothing else.

 

i went back to dodge after i added my own fluid because it was too low.they removed all the fluid,cleaned and changed it.the manual calls for 85/90 synthetic.they put in 85/140 synthetic.i asked about this and they said the thicker was replacing the 85/90.it seemed to shutter sometimes around corners.i put in a bottle of dodges posi additive although american axel says you dont need it.well it worked,back to smooth operation.
