Question Oily Residue Along The Sides of the Truck?

I'm a new owner of a CTD diesel, I haven't washed the truck for about a week and I'm noticing a oily residue along both sides of the truck. I swipe it with my finger and can't detect a smell to determine what it might be. The engine looks clean all around. There's nothing abnormally wet with grease/oil under the truck. Is this normal? I didn't have this with the old HEMI.

I had the same issue, but only on the lower portion of the passenger side. I needed to wipe it off with a rag and cleaner because a pressure washer wouldn't remove it. I can't tell where it came from either! I'm hoping it was just some type of excess grease??

My '07 ( 5.9 ).....

I had the same problem. Traced it down to the detail shop at the dealer overkilled the tire spray shine crap and totalled the sides of my BLACK truck . Drove by there a couple days later and told the salesman to teach the boys how to clean a truck.

Hmmm. I didn't think of the tire shine spray. I do them myself with the Stoner spray can stuff lately. Could be, could be.

It's gettin' hot here...i.e. I can't dry the truck fast enough so I take it to the car wash....

Yes, they over did the tire black crap...had small black marks on the rear fenderwells. Totally negated the clean truck syndrome!

if you put more then 11.5 quarts of oil in the 5.9 it will blow it out thru the breather tube

Wouldn't that coat the underside of the truck?

True. But mine is bone dry everywhere else except the sides. Plus, I would think it would smell like oil or diesel but, I can't smell anything.

I'm really leaning toward the tire shine theory because the spray pattern comes up and fans out from the wheel wells.

Happy Clanking!
