Just to forewarn you, there are brand wars on this subject...

With that in mind, any bypass oil filter will do the job. Some are better than others; I don't have any experience with them. I know others will chime in.

I do not belive that there is a bypass filter that will filter small enough to remove the soot from the oil. A bypass filter will help extend oil life but it will still be black as coal.

there isnt a bypass filter on the market that will clean any of the 04+ engines. Something with the 3rd injection event that makes the soot particles too small or some technical junk like that. I talked to both Amsoil and FS2500 and they both said the bypass will do nothing for our trucks. But... that doesnt mean the bypass filters dont do their job. I have a bypass filter now and when i did my 7k analasis they said my oil is still ok to keep in the truck.

A paper filter wouldn't last long at all if it could filter that small.

Because people are willing to pay that much for it. You can get a bypass system from Amsoil for about 1/2 the price of the FS2500.

You can do much better than that as well. The best, imo, filters are Motorguard or Franz and they are very inexpensive and use the least expensive filters and filter the best as they are sub-micronic BUT you have to change filters every 2-3000miles.
I'm running an Amsoil eabp100 filter currently. I have run Oilguard and motorguard in the past. Any one of these will do your engine just fine.

But don't expect cleaner looking oil as soot is something around 1/100th of a micron. There isn't a filter invented yet that can handle stuff that small.
