Nerf bar blues
Nerf bar blues
I have a set of after market nerf bars and the mounting screws in the under-body have pulled out. In this they have ripped the sheet metal does anyone have a fix for this? I would like to fix metal, but with out alot of money. I would like to go to factory bars and I'm looking for a set now but have not had much luck.
The holes for the straps that run from bars to truck could be moved if I wanted them to be out in the open more, looking for better set of bars actually. The holes now have ripped into a cross shape from the midle of the hole.
look in to Westen nerf bars. I have them and they dont move, not even with a 250+ man stepping on them. They use the long bolts that connect the body mounts. They are simple to install and much cheaper than the Nfab's.
ksram,
I was just curious what brand steps you have. I have dee zee's. If this is the same brand you have I want to look into strengthening the sheet metal so I don't have the same problem in the future.

Another vote for Westin CPS step bars! Lifetime warranty on the finish and mine still look like new after 4 years. The sand and salt on the beach is a really good test of the high quality of the Westins:

03WVJay, mine are not Dee Zee, I had DeeZee on my 99 and they were great. There is no brand on my bars now but my brother has westin on his 03 and they are really good bars, but they are more than the OEM bars. I just don't want to have to drill new holes in the metal under plate again.
I just put a set of Putco stainless bars on my truck, their 5" oval so they have a nice wide step and are mounted at three pionts.
The best thing is that they required no drilling. They use an ingenious mounting system that has bolts that have metal plate welded to the ends (offset to the bolt). They slip into existing holes in the body and act as backing plates. All the hardware is stainless steel.
I had factory alloy bars on my 99' which held up great, 8 years in the northeast and they still looked as new.
It looks like you will have to get a different mounting style bar or break out the MIG welder.
