Question Need new rear calipers... Suggestions?

My left rear caliper is dragging. Took it apart yesterday and the slides are frozen up. Sooo.... I need new calipers.

My questions is... what brand caliper do you all recommend? I was thinking about NAPA. I hestiate to use OEM since the orginals failed with only 62,000 miles of light use.

Thank you for any suggestions guys!

Are the NAPA's new or re manufactured? What is the warranty?

If you can stay with your factory ones you are generally better off than with some reman that may have 500k miles on the cores. The reason they fail is from all the dirt and crap that gets kicked up by the front tires. If you can find or fabricate a shield for the slide bushings you will be better off.
If one of these rear calipers just had slide problems, I would hone all the rust out of the bores and replace the slide pins and bushings. I wouldn't replace the caliper unless there was a problem with the piston or seal.
Just my opinion.

Agree with torquefan, pull the calipers off and clean up the pins. Put them back together with white grease. problem solved.

On the rear of my 01 with 250k on the odo I had to replace a rotor due to a frozen caliper (ate the pad and trashed the rotor). I went ahead and replaced both rotors and both calipers on the rear. I used NAPA parts. IIRC I used thier Eclipse line they were selling and so far so good. I think the calipers (semi loaded) were in the neighborhood of $90.00. Seemed to be of decent quality. So far no problems and it has been about a year.

I disassembled them and cleaned them up. Put grease on them and they are now almost impossible to move!!! I'm not sure what the deal is. It's the most frustrating thing I've ever worked on.... because they are so simple!

Anyway... I've had it with them and ready to put some new ones on.

Actually not. You put grease on there and you'll end up with 100 times the dirt and debris. If you do anything, use a DRY lube.

Really don't want to argue about it, but I've been using white lube for 40 years, never had any trouble. if the seals are bad, no lube will make a difference.
Sorry it doesn't work for you, works for me.

Most likely the fanolic piston is swollen up and tolerances are to tight, most guys wouldnt use steel pistons anymore, but when i can get them for caliper problems they work the best,,so see if you can get a steel piston from napa.

I bought two new napa ones for the rear of my truck. Had the same problem as you. I think the Napa ones are designed better than my oem ones. they have a better head on the bolt holding the little boot over the slide pin. Looks a lot better for keeping dirt out compared to my oem ones. They also look a little cooler as far as their color goes. My problem is gone once I did that and the line between the rears. Also put new fluid in and bled the whole system. Cleaned my brake resi cap well, and re greased the front slide pins. Front look like they have a little more life left.
