Need help repairing a rolled truck
Jumper... That's a beautiful truck... well worth saving... I've been looking for an old crew cab 4X4 in that model... I think the only ones were the crew cabs made specially for the Air Force back then...
And good point about the VIN... But also what about that dang sticker inside the drivers door? it's got the bar code with all your trucks information when the dealership scans it...
On second thought... leave the 1500 one... should throw 'em for a loop!!! hahaha... se how fast the dealer is on the up take... may give you and idea to take it else where... hahahaha....

Carl, just a few thoughts, measure the front fenders on both units ,then size up cab, as the 1500 is probably a v8 the firewall is not set back as it is for the cummins, so that would be a major mod. check all elect. harness locations on the f/w. Also the doors seem to be smaller on the 1500. I know that if possible, I would tackle the project with out a hesitation, and I will be 69 in may, should not be a big heel for a high stepper.
Good luck either way.

I just came across this thread which i was hoping to read more! I did the same, drunk gf attacked me and I rolled a 04 and bought a 03 to rebuild it, I did research though, a 1500 firewall and floor pan arnt the same. Acording to the dealership anyway, so i got a 2500 hemi and yes i had to gut both and redo, which was fine, the truck i bought had manual windows, I installed all my power, the bigest problem i had was after i cut the roof off to drive it around the yard so i could get in it was re wiring the harness for the overhead computer haha
hate to be the bearer of bad news but............you just don't cut the roof off and weld it back on. you do that and i can say with all certainty that you will be beheaded the next time it rolls over. there are too many inner structures that need to seperated and slpiced back together in the proper order to make it safe.
but yes it would be easier to section the roof at the pillars but it is not a job for the average guy like it used to be.
here is a pic of a rollover i did a few months back.

I *think* kingofdodge7131 had no intentions of welding the new roof on.....he was simply talking about cutting the old roof off so as to gain access to the interior to drive it to the area he was going to start the repairs.
I would swing by a dealership with a buddy and a tape measure, or cut the diesel open enough to get good measurements. I'm pretty sure the fire wall is different, and guarantee the floor pan is different, with the size differences in trannys.
edit: floor pan differences between 2 and 4wd

Part it out and start over.
You're going to end up with a salvage title or a title that dosen't match what the truck is.
Ahhh its your money and time good luck and keep us posted.
