My '06 is a pretty good truck.
I average 16mpg. Highest tank of 20.7, lowest of 12.2. It is my DD in DFW metro. Think high temps and stop 'n go driving w/ interspersed freeway. There was also a tire size change in there too
I take my oil changes to 7500mi. And I do an oil analysis with each. They all show a great internal condition for the engine. I use Fleetguard 16035 oil filter and one of three 15w40 oils (Mobil Delvac, Valvoline Premium Blue or Rotella). I change the stock can fuel filter every 10k (Baldwin PF7977) and I have a 2mic aux filter after that that I have marked for either 10 or 15k (Cat 1R-0750 or Donaldson P551313).
I run with the tranny in T/H mode. I like the shifts better. I haven't hauled heavier than a bed load of mesquite firewood for a 420mi trip so I can't comment on towing. But I think that was the smoothest drive I've ever had
When I first started searching for a Cummins I remember having the question "Which year?". I wanted something low mileage and a 5.9. The best shot at that criteria was an 06-07. It just so happened I found an '06 w/32k for the right price. It was the right truck. I currently have 65k on my truck and it's been paid off for more than a year now. Value has appreciated. And I ain't getting rid of it for nothing

You can extend oil change intervals with an oil bypass system. The added oil capacity and secondary oil filter aids longevity. But on the stock system, like I said I'm going 7500mi and according to my OAs I could be taking them out longer than that. So, you have a good bit of room on an oil change permitting you monitor with OAs to forecast.
I had 96k on my '06 when I sold it in 2010. The truck was flawless and I kick myself for getting rid of it. I got 19/23 on average. The transmission in the 06 is the strongest of the 3rd gens but that's speaking from a stock (unchipped) POV. I would be all over the one you found and if you aren't interested send me the info.
Too bad...it "looks" like a beautiful truck, you can find it at Strumburg (sp?) in Jasper Indiana.
SO, I'm still looking...
I have a 2006 5.9 cummins 2500 with 80,000, last 40,000 have pulled a 10K fifth wheel. ST exhaust, A&e intake, no chip. It has performed quite well, only problem has been a blown water pump, and new batteries. I plan to install heavier rear springs to compensate for a new trailer which will add 400# to payload. Other than that, all is well.
Does anyone have comments on exceeding factory payload specs by 1300 lbs??

^^^^ Third on the airbags, you will love them.
The biggest issue is the recirc door breaking.
Also check the steering gearbox, the one in my '06 failed at 48k miles and was covered under the 5/50 per my dealer.
