my order was cancelled

It's been a sad day. I posted earlier this week that I had ordered an '04 3500 HO 6-spd. On Tuesday, dealer said the order was placed on Monday and everything was fine. Got a call from them today and now I guess the order has been "kicked back." No HO engine orders due to the new engine coming out soon. I was really getting excited too. Now I'm wondering if I should be flexible in my options a little bit and get a 2500 that's on the lot or wait for the new engine. Perhaps I should wait until Dec. 10th to make that decision. :'(

That's not right.

I guess you'll have to pick off the lot or take a chance with the EGR stuff. If that's really what it is. :

Does the EGR constitute it being called a new engine? It doesn't sound right. Dealers are so often in the dark it's not funny.

P.S. PHX, are you an air traffic controller?

The other thing about the new engine is the uprated numbers
D-C are playing their cards so close to their chest now, no one really knows for sure exactly what the new numbers will be or whether the truck will in fact have EGR for sure.
The coin toss you will have is, when the new numbers are announced the buying public will stampede to the new engine with the new numbers, or stick with the old. My guess would be some buying incentives for the old trucks still on the lots. (that we don't get here in Canada) :'(

This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I was talking to a friend of mine who works for Chrysler. He told me that after the first of the year there is going to be a 2004.5 change. They are upping the specs on the new trucks. HP.325 TQ.600 ft.lbs. I hope this might help.

Yup, nervous twitch and always looking over my shoulder.

I'm not sure if it will have an EGR, more hp/tq or what exactly is happening. I don't think anybody but the uppity ups at Chrysler do. I'll just wait and see, what else is there to do anyway?

Re:my order was cancelled

After an exhaustive search on dodge.com covering about 9 western states, I've only been able to find two trucks that are even close to what I want and each of them have some things that I'm not too sure I like. So, I think I'm going to wait until the 10th and see what happens. I believe in the philosophy that everything happens for a reason so maybe this will turn out to be good. One question I do have, though, is since the whole emissions thing is federal, will the government start requiring emissions tests and checks in all states? If so, I think that EGR would be the more likely choice since it would be much more difficult, if not impossible, to remove it. Does anyone know if the ISB used in the RV industry has EGR? I'm also thinking it will probably have a variable geometry turbo on it, so there's more stuff to go wrong and expensive parts to replace.

Re:my order was cancelled

This might have something to do with what my Service manager told me the other day.

There is some argument between DC & Cummins about Calif engines.
Calif wants catilatic concerters on diesels & Cummins is not wanting to put them on.

This seems to be a big deal at Cummins & they are even slowing down the delivery of engines to the assembly plant, which would explain orders being canceled, delayed & a shortage of trucks.
