My A/C Doesn't Blow Super Cold Air
My A/C Doesn't Blow Super Cold Air
.
My air-conditioner doesn't put out really cold air. I drive a 2005 CTD, Quad Cab, and it has less then 4,000 miles on it. I noticed that the air just isn't as cold as my other vehicles. The compressor is definitely working and the return pipe is cold and lightly sweating.
Has anyone else noticed the same thing with his or her trucks?
Another guy I know that also drives a Ram (1500, gas burner, 2004, quad cab) and he has had it into the dealer a few times and each time they say that it is working as per design.
My wife's Town & Country puts out lots of very cold air. I just wish my truck did as well as the van does. It almost seems like outside air (relatively humid air) is being mixed with the air that is passing over the evaporator, producing warm moist air, even when I select the re-circulate button.
I haven't gotten into this issue very heavily this season, yet. However, as the temps rise outside, I'm sure it will surface again.
Does anyone have any ideas? I would especially like to hear from guys that live and drive in the hot and humid regions, such as the Gulf Coast.

I bet the blend door is either stuck or not working. Its vaccum operated, and I doubt that you lost vaccum. If you lost vaccum your air would come out the defrost vents regardless of the selector **** position. I would definetly check out the blend door though.
Mine was a little low on freon from the factory. I topped it off and now it is super cold. Is your condensor clean? If it is full of bugs and dirt it will hurt the cooling as well. I would stay on the dealer to fix the problem. Probably is the blend door though. Good luck
I have an 03 that has been in the shop 4 times for ac issues. 1st time at 28k they only charged more freon. They said was low 13oz. warranty covered. 2nd time at 35k they replaced evaporator and repaired blend door and charged more freon - warranty covered. 3rd time they replaced compressor and was suppose to repair blend door again but didn't - warranty covered because ongoing issue. This was 4 weeks ago at 42k. Took it back for blend door 2 days ago. This time had to pay $670.00 for blend door. DC is reimbursing me but still had to put money up for a part that lasted 8k miles and 8 months. All these problems started the same way as urs. These ac units are not too good. Try to get ur prob fixed while still under warranty. They don't seem to be good at standing behind work they have done after the warranty expires. I will say dodge ac units don't seem to cool nearly as well as other trucks on the market even when they are working properly.
Just a note on the blend doors. I haven't had a issue yet but first getting the truck I noticed the blend doors made a popping sound if the blower was set to max and switching the vents. Since then I always set the fan to low or off when switching. The noise disappeared.

The 3rd generation blend doors are NOT vacumn operated. All elect.! Did away with vacumn after 02 because of the issues.Low freon charge has been a issue and many threads/posts every summer since 03.

One word of warning when adding refrigerant, be sure to add oil to the system when you add a can or more due to leakage. I learned this the hard way several years ago, I just kept adding refrigerant every couple of months and never bothered to fix the leak and never added any oil. Well about several months of this my compressor started to rattle and die from lack of oil. A very expensive mistake (almost $400) could have been prevented with a $5.00 can of oil charge. Also I dunno why Chrystler has so much trouble with making a A/C system not leak. My 1998 Jeep ALWAYS needed refrigerant. It went through two evaporators before I traded it in. I think DC needs some help from toyota in the A/C department. I have a 85' toyota pickup that still have the original r-12 factory charge.
