There are a lot of threads on the "600"s mileage. But I don't think many are really broken in yet. Somewhere between 13 and 20 is a safe range, depends on the truck, your speed, a whole bunch of factors.

goyone on order huh?,,this is my fist diesel,,had a 2001 gas 1500 , 12.5 mpg is the best i could get on the interstate,,empty with the tailgate down, driving like a nunn,,,6 mpg pulling a 20 ft enclosed car hauler with one motorcycle in it,,had to get out from under that! so i went to a diesel. didn"t do much reseach, ended up with a dodge because i thought the cummins was a true diesel,,,dealer couldn"t tell me much about them.. took a 2500 with srick for a ride,,didn"t get on it,,but it was a very nice truck,,himm hauded around about it for acouple of day, went back to buy it and it was sold,,ended up with a 3500 some how( don"t ask me how,,my mind works in strange ways!) the truck is totaly awsome!when i picked it up,,i babied the throttle pedal..so,,I still didn"t realize i had i wild beast under the hood, started driving it harder, and now I"m smiling alot and falling in love head over heels, hope i get the 25 miles per gallon,,but i think i will still be happy at 17, the only thing i am disappointed about ,is the stiffness of the 3500, seems to jar me when i go over bumps,,the seats could have more spring action to illiminate that,,if i can"t get used to it I""ll have to have the overlaod springs taken out and go to some softer tires,,from the info i get,,that"s the only diff from the 2500,,,,good luck with ur new truck , when u get it,,I"ll kep u posted on the milage and and type of breakin

Ed Paul,
Congrats on your new Ram! Your gonna LOVE it.

Actually I havent had mine long, but it was a dealer trade and now has about 900 miles. If you can keep from mashing the pedal your mileage should be pretty good. I can get 22 on the highway if I drive 55 (which I cant!)

at 55 MPH - 22.3 MPG (awesome!)
at 65 MPH - 19.6 MPG
at 80 MPH - 15.9 MPG

Enjoy!

yeah, the hardest part of owning a new 600 is trying to keep your foot out of the go pedal to get good gas mileage..

resetting the mileage computer when i get on the hyw, and then when i get off I"m getting around 19 hyw and 15 city,, but i got lucky and hit mostly green lights,
only have 450 miles on it,,thats babying it( which i won"t be doing often) but still that"s awsome for a big truck with all that power! still hope to hit 25 mpg after 4000 miles,,,,that would be frosting on the cake!

I think that I'll place that hope right next to my hopes for a big lotter win. In the almost five years of owning my 2500 4WD, I've hit ONE tank of fuel over 20MPG. Most of the time I drive my truck like I stole it, but that time I was driving completely on the freeway (unloaded), with the cruise set at 65. Everything else on the road was passing me, but at the time I wasn't in a hurry. This was in a lighter truck with 3.55 gears, so I really don't ever expect to get over 20MPG in a truck that weighs more, and has lower gears.

I'll will seriously be happy if I can get the same average MPG as I currently have. I've averaged 17MPG over the life of my current ride. That is every mile traveled and every drop of fuel put in it over the last 5 years.
