In the market for a remote start setup
im looking for a remote start/Alarm setup, ive never had one and dont know much about them. ive been looking around at the viper 5902, python 1091 and the autopage's. was wondering if any of you have used theses or Recommend a better one! it gets cold in the winter so one with a good wait to start function would be nice. Was also wondering if they have a turbo timer option? thanks for your time.
I have a viper system in mine. It's been nothing but a pain in the neck since I bought it. Part of the problem has been the installer not being able to set it up correctly. Now it locks the doors and honks the horn every time I put it in drive. One of the key fobs quit working after about 9-10 months.
I had a viper system on my '01 Dakota, and it was flawless for the nine years I owned it. Never even replaced a battery.
Also, keep in mind how long a diesel has to warm up on a cold day. Mine will sit at idle for 15-20 minutes before it starts to defrost the window. You don't really get appreciable heat in the cab until you start driving it.

viper owns astro start and i used to install astro starts with 1 in 500 having a issue.. usually was the operator screwing with the settings. You can have it set up for a timed wait or for your glow plug light to go off then it will start your truck.
As for the warming up after it starts, your 07 should kick into high idle all on its own. If it doesn't then go to the dealer and get em to turn on that feature. and remember to leave your heater on high when you get out.. IF you have heated seats get them to hook that to your remote also. sure is nice having warm seats when you jump in. Not sure why ya need a turbo timer. Just hit the continues button so it runs when you jump out and in five minutes hit the stop button.. BTW i live in the frosty land of Alberta i understand cold..

I had an autopage on my old 1500... worked great and 1/2 the price of a viper... my buddy with the viper would complain about his remotes eating batteries every few weeks... mine lasted for 3 months ...
I have an Avital system on mine, same as I've had on several cars. I love the convenience but it does have one glitch. The system requires a connection to read the cam position sensor and for some reason it's also occasionally sending a signal back to the sensor and that causes a sudden engine stutter that may happen again in a few miles or may not happen for several hundred. A diode in the line between the "brain" and the sensor solved the problem. I fought this issue for over two years before another member here suggested the cause. Apparently it's not all that uncommon. Two caveats: 1)your '07 may not have the issue and 2) Avital has since upgraded their systems. It's really nice to start the engine remotely, especially with the warm-up feature of the Pac-Brake.
