Line-X Xtra for Inferno Red?
Line-X Xtra for Inferno Red?
My body shop tells me that Inferno Red is a very tough color to match when I asked him about painting an SRT-10 hood (something about multi-stage) and he insisted on blending out the color on the fenders to match, yet I like the idea of using color-matched Line-X for the bed and rockers.
My 2nd choice is Line-X Xtra in black but after looking at it at the dealer, I think all the Xtras are too shiny, especially the black. Can they tone down the gloss level with Xtra or even make it flat? (I won't do the standard Line-X on the rockers because of the fade) - Has anyone gotten into an intelligent conversation with a dealer on gloss levels and texture?
Has anyone done a color match in Inferno Red? If so, can you tell me what you think?
Does color matching have anything to do with the dealer? In other words, I know that prep for Line-X is half the job, but how much should I search out a dealer based on his experience with the Xtra process?
I know these are advanced questions that maybe only a dealer can answer, but of the 2 dealers I've spoken with, neither gave me a warm and fuzzy answer about matching multi-stage paints with a single stage process.
Thanks!

Any painter worth his salt can paint that hood to match with no blend. Inferno red is a 2 stage color, not a 3 stage with a pearlized clear intermediate stage; that color does suck. Dodge does have a color that is similar to our Inferno red that is a 3 stage. Make sure he isn't thinking of that color.
I have not had a color match linex done, but I would believe that they could get close enough to make you happy. They will never look exactly the same due to texture anyhow. Good luck!

The best solution for the bed is to have them shoot it with line x red, and then follow that up with automotive paint. It will match exactly and the paint will hold up very well. Same with rocker panels.
That is the only way you will get it to match, especially if you are as fussy as I am

you can't just simply coat over a Polyurea Hybrid bedliner like Line-X with an auto paint. It wont last. You have to use an Aliphatic Urethane that is tinted to match the auto paint color and it has to be done within 4-6 hours of the bedliner being sprayed for a good bond or you will have to use a tie coat primer or solvent wipe the bedliner with MEK.

an Aliphatics are UV stable where Aromatics are not.
Both urethanes and polyureas come in Aliphatics and Aromatics.
Standard bedliners are Aromatics which is why they grey out over time.
If they starded out say a light grey color they would go green over time.
this is what you need.
