LEDs in Mirrors

Finally, after years of wanting to do this, I finally got up the nerve to drill holes in my mirrors. Sorry for the bad pics. I'll see if I can better ones tomorrow. Its late and I'm sure the neighbors are getting tired of hearing my truck unlock. Let me know wha'cha think.

I've always liked the idea.

What LED's did you use? Are they tied into the marker/turn signal circuit?

Tony, I ended up using these 5mm leds.(http://www.oznium.com/prewired-leds)
I lightly sanded the bulbs to give them more of a glow rather than a focused beam. Then I tinted them so they wouldn't be that obvious during the day. I sprayed some black paint on them then just rubbed it in and removed excess. The lights are only tied into the markers. My next project is to wire in some puddle lights. This was very time consuming. The toughest part was wiring the mirror and routing into the cab without any visiable wires. Well worth the time, IMAO.

jjoiner,
Thanks for the link. The price is certainly right!

I'll be looking into that mod shortly!

That is the nicest job I have seen. Completely custom and professional. I will do this to mine this summer. Thanks for the link.
How did you secure the lights on the inside?
Sealant, RTV?

Thanks for all the complements!

CTDSled, the lights come with a mounting bezel that inserts from the front. It has a lip on it to prevent the bezel from being pushed through the opening. The light inserts from inside the mirror and locks into the bezel. If you happen to drill the hole to big, you could use silicone to hold it in place, but I did not use any. The directions say they mount in a 1/4" hole but I had to inlarge the hole just a tad being carefull not to make the hole too big.
