Largest Tire Size on 2008?

I just bought a 2008, 2500 Cummins 4x4. Decided to step up and pull the trigger! I am selling my 1998 1/2 4x4 Cummins now if anyone is interested(check Craig's List Houston). Anyway, I want to replace the stock tires on the 2008 with a larger All-Terrain.

Will 305/70/R17s fit on stock wheels with stock ride height?

If not, what is the largest tire I can fit without rubbing?

On stock wheels, most will say you can run up to a 35" with minor rubbing on the control arm.

Those 305's should be fine.

What is the widest I can go on the stock wheels(and be safe)? I don't want the tires to be squeezing back in to the wheels. 12" seems pretty wide for a stock wheel, but then again, I am not sure how wide the stock wheels are?

i had 35's on my 04.5 for about 2 months till i had enough for a levelling kit..they barely hit the control arm...other than that i took mine off road up in the mountains and everything before the levelling kit and only had to remember the last few degrees would make them rub

Refer to the tire manufacturer's specs.

I know many guys run the 315s on stock rims. Some run a true 12.50 on stock rims as well. Not saying it is safe, just some actually are doing it.

I have 315's on mine and no problems. Check out my pics. I have a farm and they do get close to the mudflaps but so far no rub even in the fields.

Hayseed, do you have your truck leveled with the 2" spacers in the front?

I am running 325/70R17 Nitto's on my '08 and only minor control arm rubbing at full lock. i also have a 2" level puck up front but they fit without the lift. The stock wheels are 8" wide, my 325 tires are ~13" wide. I wasn't sure about putting that wide a tire on that wheel either but i talked to several others who had done it and they had no problems. I have also pulled 10,000lbs. 1300 miles from KY to south TX with these tires and no problems whatsoever. I keep em at 48psi front and rear and they are wearing fine.

Be advised: if you get anything but a load range "e" tire on your '08, your TPMS sensor is going to ding twice every time you start your truck and the light on the dash will stay on until you drive far enough (or the weather is hot enough outside like it was today) for the air to expand in the tires and make the light turn off. DC hasn't updated their StarScan tool yet at the dealerships in order to adjust the PSI at which the TPMS goes off like they do for all the other vehicles they sell with TPMS. Just because the '08 Ram is the first year the trucks have TPMS. I would think within the next couple of months they will have an update for the StarScan tool that will allow the dealer to adjust the PSI which triggers the TPMS.

I'd personally go with a toyo 285/75/17 or 295/70 or BFG 305/70. One of the benefits of the 285 is that it's a stock width tire and the dealer will probably over look it if you had problems plus their scan tool will allow a 285... Albeit the aspect is 75% vs 70% but you're right there if you know what I mean. They are like 34x11.25, perfect for stock IMO.

I think anything bigger than those 3 is too much bulk without a lift and the stock wheels plus will rub the control arms.

I'd also do it right and try to get an E rated tire.

Best of luck with your new truck.
