Question Largest size tire for a stock dually

What is the largest tire one can put on a stock 3rd gen 4x4 dually without spacers? I need something more agressive than the cracking stock GY GSA's. Thanks

Anybody? I was told that the stock 265/70/17 off of a 2500 will fit but is that true?

Yes, the 265/70/17 will fit a 3rd gen dually. I saw one yesterday with the Michelin LTX A/S tires. Appears to have plenty of clearance between the tires without having to use a spacer.

I am sure a 265 tire will be alright. I am running 285/70/17 Goodyear MT/R's without spacers right now with no problems. I had 2" spacers with them and it just looked goofy with them sticking outside the fenders and a ton of space between them. With no spacer at all, 50psi of air, and nothing in the bed I had dang near 3/8" between the tires at the bulge. With my loaded tool box and ATV (around 1k lbs. combined) I only had about 1/8", I added some big grade 8 washers between the wheels (1 per stud) which gave me a little more. Sometime in the future I will go with 35x12.50's and will need the spacers, but this set up works for me know.

Great. Thanks. RBMuddin, that is exactly what I want. The MT/R's look great. How much taller are the 265's and 285's than the stock 235's. I believe the 285's = 33's and 265's =31's. Are the stockers only about 29?

Depending on the manufacture here are the approximate diameter of those sizes stated above.

Stock 235/80R17's = 31.65"
265/75R17's = 31.60"
285/70R17's = 32.80"

Don't forget that the dually's stock rim width is only 6". If you look at the spec's for the 265 and 285, the stock rims are too narrow.

Yeah rim width . I was looking at that last night. I haven't found any aggressive tires in the 235 size. I was thinking of 265 MTR's but saw they are only weight rated C. The 285's have a D rating. I am not going to install a leveling kit but I would like a little more height in my rig. I need a little more aggressive and a little more tall tire...where's that magic genie of mine, I swore I packed him away somewhere. Moving sucks.

BigBob, it could be my eyes but I thought our 235's are not as tall as the 265's. I was eye balling a buddy's 2500 with 265's and swore he had me on height. Not for sure but he was parked on the grass next to me and looked taller. Maybe my rig was in a depression or something causing the illusion.

Junior,

Take a look at the following Tire Manufacture's specs between the two.

Oh, thanks. So, we really have zero choices for an aggressive tire for our duallys. Figures.
