Does anyone know what is the largest spare tire we can fit under the truck where the stock spare is located? I am looking to get new tires (possible 5) size is 285/75R17 (size not a typo) and want to replace the stock 265/70R17 spare. The 285/75R17 comes out to be just shy of 34" tall tire.

 

315-70-17 will fit. Your good

 

I have a 315/70/17 wedged under mine, might be room for a little more...

I dont know of anyone fitting a 37 under there, but if someone has post up!

 

Thundercloud - where are you getting your 285/75's, and what kind of tire are they? That's probably the tire I'm going to go with, and am wondering what you've come up with in your research.

Toyo Open Country AT has this size but they are not posted on their website yet. They are an "E" rated tire to boot . Do a search on 1010 tires site for that size. I believe they are $199 per tire.

 

I have the Toyo 285/75/17 A/T's on mine (about 5k miles now) and I really like them. Its a nice fit on the stock wheels with a leveling kit.

 

If your truck came with Michelins, I would recommend that you look at your tires closely to see if you have any hairline cracking along the inner edge of the tire (about an inch out from the wheel) and if so call Michelin about getting them replaced under warranty.

I had 12,000 miles on my truck and the cracks weren't that bad, they were hard to see unless you got real close, but I called Michelin and they sent me to my local Big-O tire store. They replaced all five with BFG AT 285/75/17s under warranty at no cost to me, including the mounting and balancing! The new 285 spare fits fine under the bed.

Finally, with the money I saved on the tires, I bought myself a Smarty from Larry here on DTR!

 

I don't see a 285-75-17 AT in BFG's spec section. Two, 285-70-17's are listed,but they are only "D" rated.

 

My 35 X 12.5 Toyo MT spare fits tight with just a few mm of wiggle room. I don't think a 37 inch tire could clear.

 

Now thats Smarty of you . No unfortunately/fortunately?, my truck came with the BFG's that seem to wear like iron.

Well, at least you'll get you money's worth out of the stock BFGs. My last truck came with the Rugged Trails and they wore out at ~20K miles. I wasn't too happy, but it did allow me to upgrade sooner. BFG must have upgraded their rubber compounds to address the waer issues.

does anyone have a h2 (bfg) with a mag-hytec rear pan?? does it fit?

 

If you still have a stock hitch a 315 will fit but since I have a Reese Titan class V it won't

 

my 35x12.50x17LT spare wont fit but thats due to the MagnaFlow 5" exhaust in the way
