Larger Fuel Tank

Has anyone tried or considered replacing their fuel tank with a larger one? I had a transfer flow on my chevy and the larger capacity was great, especially when I was towing.

I went with the Aero Tank's replacement exactly for towing. It works great for me. I have the 75 gallon replacement. I think they can only go up to 60 gallons on the Megacab. It is expensive, but I figure I have about 65-68 usable gallons before the fuel level is too low (since the tank is flat-bottomed and large) AND I still have my whole truck bed free.

I don't know where in So Cal you are, but they're off the 91 and 15.

Any issues with condensation? How long have you had it installed?

What about the spare tire?

Are you looking for a fuel tank replacement or a extra tank?? User cLAYH has pictures of a extra tank in the spare tire, though his picture is of a 1st gen I think it would be possible in a 3rd gen. I think he used a fuel tank out of a Chevy Blazer.

I've only had the tank since January 11th. I'm not too worried about condensation, but if it should happen, I'd be more worried algae, so I am considering adding a biocide at each fill up.

I've only driven 3560 miles since then, so I've only filled up 4 times. This is very nice for towing.

With the auxiliary [donut] tank beneath the spare tire, the spare does hang down about 5 or 6 inches lower. The tire is probably about 3 inches lower than the bottom of the bumper, but seems to still be high enough to not hang up on anything.

The auxiliary tank is connected to the main tank via four lines. One of the lines is clear, so you can see the fuel level. You have to look under the bumper. I don't bother as I fill up to the neck. I have to slow down a little to allow fuel to transfer to the donut tank, but it's still pretty fast. It's faster to top off than an OEM tank without the vent mod.

If I had to drain it, it has drain plugs already. Since the shop installed it, I have a 3 year/50,000 mile warranty.

Might be a good idea, but i'd want some evidence before spending more money...unfortunately, the evidence would probably be a plugged fuel filter.

That's what I'm after! I like having the range and being able to shop a little for the best price!

I bought 120 gal. steel aux. tank for bed..Have elect. fuel pump just for tank under bed connected to switch.(12-15 mins. to fuel 25-30 gal) Works good..Have to watch that you don't run over..3 years OK so far..I stop and do check on equip. when I fuel..Pull 36' 5th wheel..Can buy fuel where it is cheaper plus peace of mind..Paid 60.00 for tank another 60 for pump etc..
I have read of some using gravity flow for transfer,no pump.I bought tank from ad. in paper..Owner hauled trailers for living..

Nope. The 75 gallon Aerotank for the long bed has two pieces. The 60 gallon for the long bed is one piece.

I checked earlier today and I was off on how far down the spare tire hangs. It hangs about three inches below the hitch underneath the bumper, so it's about 5-6 inches lower than the bottom of the bumper.
