DC will not tell us, but the flyer said to STOP sale, send back all that are in stock and the tech DC people said to remove from customers trucks,,,,,,, There might be a safety issue, that's our guess
At this point that's all My Dealer knows and again we have called DC with no answers

OK, just found out,,,,,,,,,the Mopar/Cummins/DC exhaust brake was been recalled, the casting of the elbow was too thin and a fire would start if elbow cracks and so far 5 Dodge Cummins trucks have burned up....... I believe its the Gen. lll's only

DARN!!!
Just called my dealer about the Jacobs EB. He had not heard about any recall offer, but made a quick phone call. He confirmed that there is a casting problem with the current Jacobs EB and that I have two options: 1) Wait till the improved model comes out. It is projected for sometime in December, but not promised. 2) Have the Jacobs EB removed from the truck and receive a full refund.
What to do? I want an EB. If I go with a different brand it would probably need to be a PacBrake. What would this do to my Dodge warranty? Banks does not have an EB for the '04 Ram truck presently.

Yesterday I called the local Dodge dlrs and got a variety of answers as follows:
1) Dlr#1 (where I bought the truck) won't even call back until they get some "more information."
2) Dlr#2 has never installed the EBs on new Dodges.
3) Dlr#3 Had not heard of any recalls.
4) Dlr#4 had been told to stop all installations of the EB.
5) Called Dlr#3 again and the service mgr (upon further investigation) found that all their EBs on the shelf had been sent back and new ones should be arriving shortly and customers probably would be notified of the change-out.
So, evidently there is a problem and it is going to be addressed (sometime).

Here again is the response I received from Jacobs this week.
"Jim,
"There is huge amount of misinformation circulating around the internet. To
clear some things up: there have been no fires, there are no casting issues, and
there are no gasket design issues. What there has been is reports of loose
clamps at a dealership.
"A field location seemed to have difficulty aligning and installing the clamps
that hold the brake in place. As always, the issue was carefully investigated
and there were no issues identified beyond the customer having to make a return
trip to the shop due to a loose clamp connection. However, a redesign of the
brake was requested to make it fool-proof at installation so minor changes are
being made to make the brake self-aligning with the turbo and exhaust. The idea
is to have a product that anyone can install. These features are not required
for proper installation. However, the features do minimize the chance of sloppy
installations, which is the only reason for the change. If your brake is
installed and working properly, then you don't have an installation issue.
"Because this is an installation issue, there is no field action planned.
Because of the decision made to rework existing inventory, people have made the
situation to be a much bigger deal than it is."

If the explanation which Jacobs offered is 'the whole truth and noting but the truth', why was there such a lack of information of any kind on this for months?

The noises very strange and very loud, I didn't play with it much and had it taken off the same day of all hell braking loose, it sounded like bearing scretching and rattles, we looked at the elbow and the pump and found nothing.......
I will not be using an elbow type brake again(bigger turbo in the future), not sure what to get, JR do know of any????

http://www.usgear.com/dcelerator.htm anyone ever use these?????
Interesting concepts with differences from most EBs. I like the idea of an electrically operated EB. No compressor or vacuum pump to be concerned with. I wonder how reliable the electric EB is.

Interesting information. I just finished 11,000 mile trip towing my fiver. About 1000 miles from home, my Ebrake (Jacobs) started making squeeling noises when activated when hot. It sounds like a typical fan belt slipping sound. It will alter in sound when hitting a bump as if something in the belt line might be loose in its bracket. It goes in this week to see what is happening. It still worked, but sure was squeeling. Sure love that brake.
