Jack Stands

Time for the first tire rotation and was wondering what size jack stands to buy. You think 4 stands rated @ 3 1/2 tons each would handle the beast . My old floor jack and stands are whimpy, so I bought a 8 ton bottle jack but held off on the stand choices. Went to the dump last week and the empty weight/full tank was 7321 lbs. Any tips on getting my baby off her rubber onto the stands are much appreciated. Side note...she's starting to breaking in at 7500 miles. The mileage went up 1.5 mpg on the last fill and a low tone engine growl noticeable tells me the beast is awakening!!!

Those should hold. I use 5 ton stands and I have had no problems. Mine are probably better than I need but they were pretty cheap so........

Personally, I quit using bottle jacks years ago when I had a car fall off of one and almost fell on me! Now I always use my HD floor jack. It's the best $50.00 I ever spent! It's about 15 years old and still works great. I'd invest in one...

I've been wondering about the same thing, saw this for sale at Sears and with my Craftsman Club card I'd get it for $89.99, http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...Lift+Equipment

I went with a heavy duty floor jack from Sears as well. Version I got actually came with "free" jack stands. Think the jack is rated at 3 1/2 tons, and so are each of the stands.

It's served well for the 200,000 collective miles I have on the CTD's that have graced the driveway!

I got that exact set.

My stock bottle jack is useless with the lift and bigger tires.
That jack lifts the truck almost effortlessly.

Right On, can't beat Sears on a sale. They are few and far between these days. Great made stuff, made in Norht America ? (CHINA). Going to Sears tomorrow, however, disagree on bottle jacks.. though. Have moved a lotta of weight in the past with a bottle. If you use a floor jack and press on the pumkin it will stress the axle joint. Don't argue... face it. Point being, I already have a 1.5 floor jack(cars) and don't won't a 4 ton in the limited space, plus the floor jacks! 3.5 tons! it per stand it is. Thank you very much.

That 1.5 ton floor jack really won't like getting up even one tire in the front with the weight of the CTD sitting on it. It will do it, just not very well.

And yes, one side at a time in the rear.

Go with 6 ton jack stands for your truck, not necessarily because you need the additional load capcacity, but instead because the 6 ton stands have a much higher lift range which you will find useful to reach the frame in the jacked up position. I just purchase a pair of high quality chrome 6 ton stands at Sam's Club for $26.

I agree completely with your preferrance for a bottle jack over a floor jack. I picked up a 20 ton bottle jack on sale at Kragan's for $19. The 20 ton size sounds like overkill but is a common size and makes lifting effortless.
