I seem to remember something about that being part of the cool air intake for the air box? My 03 SO didn't have it, my 40.5 HO has it.

I think you can remove it, it just covers the hoses

I removed that cover your describing, it seems to be used as a deflector. I know that when I removed the cover it lets air come straight to the filter.

I believe it's called a charge air flap. It's supose to lower the temperture something like 50 degrees. I added one to my 04. Don't really know if it does any good. I believe it started in 05. I read about in one of the TDR magazines.

I left mine off as well when I put on the Volant. Kinda worried about rain getting into my air box though.

I just went to look at mine (06 manvan ) and it just looks like it protects the A/C lines and directs air directly to the air filter inlet. Where did you cut the hole? Shouldn't hurt anything I'm sure.

Thumbs up take it off

I took the stupid thing off last year to provide more air to my Stage 2 AFE filter. It seems to work just fine. I think it's there to simply cover the void for looks. Rain, snow, car washes haven't caused a problem. just my $.02
