i just took it off and its protecting hoses and lines....so i guess i better leave it, i jsut cut a hole in the side of it to do what i was tryign to do
I believe it's called a charge air flap. It's supose to lower the temperture something like 50 degrees. I added one to my 04. Don't really know if it does any good. I believe it started in 05. I read about in one of the TDR magazines.

I just went to look at mine (06 manvan
) and it just looks like it protects the A/C lines and directs air directly to the air filter inlet. Where did you cut the hole? Shouldn't hurt anything I'm sure.

I took the stupid thing off last year to provide more air to my Stage 2 AFE filter. It seems to work just fine. I think it's there to simply cover the void for looks. Rain, snow, car washes haven't caused a problem. just my $.02
