I've got a set of OEM polished aluminum rims with the Michelins I'm going to help a buddy sell, but I'm having trouble getting a reasonable quote for shipping them.

Just to clarify, he's already bought new wheels & tires and doesn't want to go the Michelin warranty replacement route as I've done - something to do with bad past experiences with Michelin. I tried - no luck!

Anyway, I've tried DHL and UPS, but they are very high ($100+/wheel & tire). Fedex C.S. is closed for the holiday weekend, so I'll try them on Tuesday, but I thought I would check here to see if anyone has shipped tires and wheels recently and what's the best/cheapest route is.

Look up "Forward air". I shipped 4 37" tires on rims from Los angeles to indiana for 180.00 This was a few years ago.

I live in Northern California. When I was trying to sell my wheels. I got quotes from Fedex on a few interested buyers. Anything west of the Miss. River was around $250 and anything East of it was $350-$400. Just to give you an idea from Fedex standard shipping (3-5 days depending where). No tires just for all 4 wheels.

I don't understand those rates when there are guys on this forum who bought their tires online and typically get them for a lot cheaper than what local tires shops offer in the same tire. I got my tires locally because I had to have em and was in a hurry and didn't shop around good and later saw guys getting them for $200 cheaper via the internet than what I paid.

Tires you order on line may be cheaper priced than the local tire store. The time you pay for shipping, road hazzard warranties, etc.. It comes out roughly the same price (I went through this a few months ago). Unless the online store is giving some kind of special shipping deal or throwing in the warranty for free. It may come out cheaper online.
