I want to buy a truck for cheap at a dealer auction

I'm starting to doubt if I'll ever have the time to repair my 04.5. With the prices of trucks right now, I'm thinking I'll be better off giving up, and buying another 04.5-05 truck.

Is there anyone here that lives in the dry rust free southern states, and goes to dealer auctions? I'm looking for a 3500 quad cab short box, 4x4 sport with a six speed.

Carl

Good luck, what your looking for don't normally make it to the auction unless they have major issues. At least from the auctions I have been too around here.

Yeah I know they are hard to come by. After I rolled it, I did an extensive search across the US and Canada, and couldn't find what I wanted. I ended up settling and buying the 06 in my sig. It's a great truck, but I can't stand the auto tranny. I really miss rowing through the gears.

Man, I'd take the 6 speed and just swap it in... Then part out the 04.5 and sell your auto.

I'd put some of those goodies on your 06 off your 04.

I looked into doing exactly that, especially since I just recently blew the engine in the 06. From my research it's not a very easy swap. There is a lot of electrical differences from a 04.5 manual to a 06 auto.

My brother in law just bought a very clean 04 Ram 1500 2wd QC SB V8 Auto truck w/ only 87000 miles for only $8000 and that was at a dealership!!

I'd bet you could find one even at a dealer for a great price right now....

Pure stupidity on my part. I never intended to modify the 06. It was just supposed to be a temporary truck until I fixed my 04.5. After I tore out the tranny and installed the NADP race tranny the temptation to bomb the truck was too much. I had the SPS 62/14 and gauges out of my 04.5, but never had the time to install them (I work away from home in the oilpatch).

Then one afternoon, one day day before I was finally getting a couple of weeks off, I decided to install the interior portion of my gauges and my quadzilla pressure box. I needed the quadzilla box to do boost fooling once I installed the turbo. I thought I'd be saving a bit of time, and had every intention of installing the turbo, and hooking up the rest of the guages, on my first day off.

Later on that night I ended up being a desinated driver for four drunk friends, one of which was a hopped up duramax owner. Temptation got the best of me, and I dialed up the bullydog and quad. A few short seconds later , on a deserted back road at 2am, I was shooting flames out the exhaust! I melted a few pistons within two miles of turning things up.

I know better then to drive around without gauges, I even have a pyro on my old 6.2L suburban, but it seems I'm getting dumber as I age. I'm not proud of what I did, but it seems working away from home for weeks on end makes a guy go a bit crazy.

However I did kind of get the last laugh. My buddy called me from the side of the road yesterday in his duramax. He had just toasted a piston, and was nolonger braggin up his duramax...

Just a quick question? Might it be cheaper now to just replace the piston(s) in the 06 at this time? I would think that the time to do that might be cheaper and faster than any of the other options you have now, provided you didn't do to much damage to the 06. If just a quick hone of the cylinder walls and a few pistons with rings might do it and get you back on the road again?

Like I said just a thought.
